Harman Kardon Invoke speaker - can't pair Bluetooth

I just tried using my Invoke again for the first time in a while, and I can't pair via Bluetooth in order to play music from my phone.  If I say "Hey Cortana, pair Bluetooth," it responds and says it is entering pairing mode, but my phone doesn't detect it.  When I try pressing the bluetooth button on the speaker, nothing happens... the speaker does not enter pairing mode as expected.

I did not have this problem the last time I used it (probably 2-3 months ago).

I tried doing a full factory reset and setup, and it still does the same thing.  The speaker seems to be working fine otherwise... I can issue other Cortana voice commands (i.e. whats the weather, play radio station) and it responds properly.

The speaker has the latest FW:

2.0.4.067aa17.vs-ssh-main

Barracuda_libre-11.1842.0

    I think you have to do it old school wifi WPS setup with your router's WPS button --- as the Invoke manual said it has Wifi Protected Setup. Basically you have to pair it with your wifi router, the APP has nothing to do with it.

    Go to your wifi router's web setup page. If you still can't pair it, then temporary set up your wifi router with NO password, get your Invoke speaker setup and then turn your wifi password back on.

    Unfortunately this does not help.  while the Invoke Manual mentions WPS, it is only the last sentence in the manual "The Wi-Fi Protected Setup Identifier Mark is a mark of the Wi-Fi Alliance."  There are no instructions for using it for setup and no way on the speaker (i.e. no WPS button or WPS PIN generator).

    Also the YouTube video is for a different HK speaker product and the HK app mentioned does not connect to to the Invoke at all.

    I have noticed that I can connect the Invoke to my router by choosing "Setup a new device" from my iPhone's Wi-Fi setting page.  This does connect the the Invoke and provide an IP address which I can Ping, but it does nothing.  About 5 min after the connection, the Invoke just says something went wrong.  (I even tired making this connection and using the app mentioned in the video, and Cortana device setup, but to no avail).

    But your wifi router has a WPS button.

    You can also try to make your wifi router to have no password to see if you can set up the bluetooth. After you set up your bluetooth, then you can put the wifi password back on.

    Microsoft would not know the WPS button. You have to ask Harman Kardon.

    I am having the exact same problem. The cortana was a perfect kitchen speaker, this holiday timing is not good. Hope somebody finds a solution but this loop does seem tricky.

    I somehow got mine to work following the same exact steps except while using my Ipad Mini 4 rather than my iPhone 11 pro.

    I hope you are all able to try attempting the same steps on an older device. I have no idea why this worked.

    Hopefully, I now have the new software and it will eventually work on my phone. for now, I'm going to leave it.
