Yes, I changed my password to get into my email on the website as mentioned above.

I don't think people know what you are talking about when you say app specific.  Can you list the steps to resolve this issue?

Did you also change the password under the email account? A simple question & I apologise for asking it but sometimes it’s easy to miss this step.

I’m reading mixed answers with AT&T re 2-step authentication; some are saying this security feature is avaibale while others say it isn’t.

    Here’s what I’ve found:

    Check settings here:

If you allowed the Mail app to set up the account automatically then try creating it manually.

I'm having the same problem setting up Mail on a brand new laptop, and I'm confused about the app-specific password.  When I enter my Yahoo email address to set up a new Mail account, I'm asked for one password.  Is this not the password for my email account?

If you have 2-step authentication on your Yahoo account then you’ll require an app specific password otherwise you’ll receive any error when it syncs for mail - this is usually along the lines of ‘your settings are out of date’.

The app specific password is not the email account’s password but a separate password for the email account:

This fix is not working, I got another error code. However, that was a month ago when I QUIT TRYING TO MAKE IT WORK!

I am using yahoo mail app because I don’t want to run around in circles trying to figure out how to connect to microsoft.

I wish to God I could get off this cycle of emails of other frustrated people.

I cannot find where to UNSUBSCRIBE.

MICROSOFT take me off this thread!!!!!!!!
