You need to use AT&T's "secure password key" instead of a normal password that you would create.  Go to the AT&T site and search for "create secure password key."  On that page, ATT will show you how to generate the key.  After you generate the key, copy it to your clipboard; there's even a button that will do it for you.  You need to get the key BEFORE you try to use email.  Here's ATT's info:

    https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240308/

Once in your email program, paste in the key instead of the password, and ask your program to remember it.  You should be good to go now.

One other thing:  AT&T email does not like Outlook for some reason.  Install Mail for Windows 10 and use that:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/mail-and-calendar/9wzdncrfhvqm?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0&activetab=pivot:overviewtab

This works.  I'm up and running.
