Thanks Louise Great to hear you got it sorted. I really didnt want to reinstall windows so I battled on.

I Finally got it to LOAD!

After crawling through pages of tips and tricks I have found a solution to my CTD on loading screen issues.

Only problem is I'm not sure exactly what fixed it but this is the Process I did.

  1. Uninstalled  MSFS 2020 and Restart PC

2 Uninstalled Xbox App and Restart PC

3 Set App language Settings to US English (this is a different setting than the keyboard and Display Language. It is in the windows settings app.

4 Installed windows sdk and Restart PC

5 Installed Xbox App and yup Restarted PC.

6 Logged in to Xbox app and searched for Flight Simulator.

7 Installed MSFS 2020 (from the xbox app) then Restarted PC

8 Now I Launched MSFS from the start menu NOT THE XBOX APP.  Right click and Run as Administrator.

The Desert scene came up like usual but instead of the expected CTD up came the installation manager and so far so good I am downloading content.

I really hope this can help Others, Good Luck

Update: After about 8 hours of downloading the extra content the Sim works. and it does look amazing. Two weeks of frustration getting it to work seems a little over the top but I'm not complaining now :)

After Update 4 MSFS2020 did not launch anymore.

Before this update everything worked perfect.

After update windows, reinstall MSFS2020 any many more attemps no progress at all.

But the solution was more easy than I assume ;-)

I switched the Bullguard Fire Wall out.

Instead of Bullguard the PC switch to Windows Defender Fire Wall automatically.

With the Windows Defender Fire Wall the game launches perfect.

Happy again!

Walter

I have had the same problen, and initially tried some of the same suggested fixes.  However, once when I tried running flight simulator it worked.  I then tried many combinations and found the following reliably works.

    1. Boot my win 10 PC
    2. Start task manager, set so I can see processes starting with Microsoft
    3. Wait for Microsoft Store process to appear (important)
    4. Then immediately (within a second or two of Microsoft Store appearing in process list) Try running or launching Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 from start menu
    5. See that it does not run (process does not appear in list - give it 10-20 seconds)
    6. Reboot
    7. Log in straight away, and quickly repeat steps 2,3,4 - for extra luck I often launch simulator several times - the extra ones just start with a small window waying it is already running
    8. After a short while see Microsoft Flight Simulator appear in the process list
    9. Enjoy flying

I know it is wierd but it is 100% repeatable for me.  Seems like it may be some strange (time-dependentj race condition or interaction of processes - just guessing it has to do with microsoft store.

    Hope this helps someone.
