Thanks Louise Great to hear you got it sorted. I really didnt want to reinstall windows so I battled on.

I Finally got it to LOAD!

After crawling through pages of tips and tricks I have found a solution to my CTD on loading screen issues.

Only problem is I'm not sure exactly what fixed it but this is the Process I did.

  1. Uninstalled  MSFS 2020 and Restart PC

2 Uninstalled Xbox App and Restart PC

3 Set App language Settings to US English (this is a different setting than the keyboard and Display Language. It is in the windows settings app.

4 Installed windows sdk and Restart PC

5 Installed Xbox App and yup Restarted PC.

6 Logged in to Xbox app and searched for Flight Simulator.

7 Installed MSFS 2020 (from the xbox app) then Restarted PC

8 Now I Launched MSFS from the start menu NOT THE XBOX APP.  Right click and Run as Administrator.

The Desert scene came up like usual but instead of the expected CTD up came the installation manager and so far so good I am downloading content.

I really hope this can help Others, Good Luck

Update: After about 8 hours of downloading the extra content the Sim works. and it does look amazing. Two weeks of frustration getting it to work seems a little over the top but I'm not complaining now :)

After Update 4 MSFS2020 did not launch anymore.

Before this update everything worked perfect.

After update windows, reinstall MSFS2020 any many more attemps no progress at all.

But the solution was more easy than I assume ;-)

I switched the Bullguard Fire Wall out.

Instead of Bullguard the PC switch to Windows Defender Fire Wall automatically.

With the Windows Defender Fire Wall the game launches perfect.

Happy again!

Walter

What I did in the end was to send the DVD's back, by a steam licence but it wouldn't install still imagining it was already installed. therefore I was in the same spot but I totally clean installed win10 on formatted disk and it worked. it is an amazing piece of software and I am happy to say that I also got the VR headset to work with it today and that is absolutely mind blowingly good.

pity the installation is such a mess. the other thing I found out today is with the deluxe, you have to manually install all the other bits i wondered why Heathrow didn't look very good at a distance. it IS worth the effort but some really clear guidance and sometimes it is do what I did, start from the bottom up and do it all again. luckily I have time off to do it. :-)

    Hi,

That is interesting to know that it also occurs on the disk version.

I created a new VM version of Windows and ran it from my iMac, this used the same login credentials as my PC and I managed to install MSFS 2020 without issue. It complained about h/w being insufficient to run the game but it worked.

Following this discovery I decided to rebuild my PC from scratch and guess what, same problem and same installation issue.

However, when I was installation the game I had the Windows Disk Management tool open and noticed a new small disk was created during the installation phase that was not mounted. This got me thinking so I restarted the installation and as soon as the disk appeared I right clicked on it and set it online and hay presto, the installation completed successfully and the game started.

Following a reboot the game would not start again, no error message nothing so I went back to the Disk Management tool and saw that a new virtual disk was created during the initial startup up of MSFS 2020 and put this disk online too and the game started.

The new virtual disk has an information icon associated with it and it states that the disk was not put online becuase of a policy setting. I'm going to look into this further today and see if I can find a solution for this too.
