    Dear Geoff,

I am almost positive we are down to a throttling issue. And somebody changed something. After deleting the temp files and such as usual and otherwise despairing again as usual I found a useful post on Steam. The post was a referral to the MS page troubleshooting this title, and just for giggles I did the command line reset as suggested with the attendant re-boot and this time, it worked.  I seem throttled TO 40Mb/s but I am 43gb into it, which is the most that has downloaded for me so far since Beta.

As I say, something changed. I have used that fix before with absolutely no results and all of a sudden it is working. I’m thinking it’s an internet speed related thing and until you can get your system to respond “exactly” within a certain timing parameter it fails.

I’ll come back with linkage in a few, I’m off my desktop right now with my fingers crossed.

And it continues to download, I’m at 55gb and still downloading. I do believe it has to do with the internet protocol settings, and the following is the zen desk for this title:

I am using a wireless connection. I've heard people mention that switching to a hard line connection resolved some connectivity issues. Problem for me is that I do not have ready access to a wired connection, and I'm not going to disconnect my PC and move it somewhere that I can plug it into an ethernet cable every time I need to update this one specific game. I don't even know that this would fix the issue, as my wireless adapter works flawlessly with every other game and application I use - even if it did then they should state that a wired connection may be required to use the software and refund anyone who bought the game and has this issue. Moreover, they could easily resolve this by offering an alternative means to download updates but they haven't done that.

    Indeed.

The product completely FAILS on every metric, simply because it will NOT install.

By the time we get access to the GAME we paid for it will be on the “greatest hits”  list and retail for 20.00. I actually don’t care any more, as they are so hopelessly outclassed by ANY of the other flight simulators in almost ANY quantifiable sense.

AI- FSX/ Prepa3d. Visuals- ORBX True Earth HD for XP11. Airplanes to fly- Carenado for looks or Flysimware or Flight Factor for systems fidelity. Many, many more. I see developers are getting on board with MSFS- but I wonder if Mr. Rendazzo @ PMDG still feels as if the new platform will be “the way of the future” given how widely it is panned by aviation people. “Marshmallow Queen of the Skies V.3” - I can hear it now.

    This thing is a turkey.

    It was a GRAB.

A cash grab to fund their acquisition of Beth, not that they needed the money, but investors ARE investors. They NEEDED a hit. A hit freaking title since recycled Halo wasn’t getting it in the sales charts. What other property did they have? Now watch, functionality of Windows itself is going to be sold “ala carte” and we’ll have to pony up another 50.00 for media player.

    Dear sweet MS,

Do please remember the last time you did this. It did not end well. It will not this time.

Bethesda may be a hedge against an uncertain future in a country full of domestic disturbances and fickle trends but flight simulator people in particular DRIVE a lot of the PC hardware industry. How do I know? I am ONE of them, MS. Jensen over at Nvidia has been a pretty happy fellow with guys like me. Same for AMD, Intel and RAM manufacturers like Samsung or Hyundai.  I can run Skyrim on a TRS-80 more than likely, with a few mods from the Nexus. FSX and it’s ilk will EAT an under 5g processor, every time. I have three sets of VR goggles although sadly, no Oculus as I gave my Oculus away after the FB debacle. To include a V2 rift but that is intrusiveness for you.

Some of your products I have found useful. Cortana is a shipping ace and I let her watch my packages for me. I do NOT let her listen to the mike or use the “service” itself. Google has a pretty intrusive/effective solution there I’m already into the economy of.

But I have enough Apple products around here to supply a company with, in fact I have.

This does nothing to inspire me to change that, Microsoft. Effectively “stealing” people’s money like this and giving them NO satisfaction is BEYOND bad customer service. It has repercussions throughout the spectrum if you follow me, people will tend to vote with their wallets.

    Marketplace.

However ARE sales of new AC, cities and such through there, anyways? Modest but robust? As soon as zipping around under a bridge downtown with the Xbox controller the plane was built for gets old it will be “old” to your new core audience. Meanwhile most of us old heads will still know where Aerosoft, Carenado, ORBX and the various independent FS products may be found.

It is a pity that you’ve let short sightedness and need for Holiday release ruin this title.

A lot of long timers in the industry felt pretty burned at the sudden announcement in the first place. But that is what it is. Flight Simulator is owned by Microsoft. They have every right to change their product and update it, as they have here. My problem isn’t even with that, it’s the fact that I can’t even fly the thing. DOUBLE normal game release money and NO game.  And for those of you NOT in the insider club and on Beta, it IS a game.

What I mean by that is obviously I have played it, it was on my system for months.

Trust me folks, the screenies  are ALL it has.

I spent more time trying to get it to co-operate with my setup of two quads, pedals and a yoke than flying it. When I finally DID get it airborne it was pretty but NOT accurate by any degree, not for my local VFR. Wrong buildings for geographic area, inflated trees (a recurring **** in Beta), wrong or inaccurate coloring, the list goes on. I STILL paid my 120.00 in good faith, even though I bailed LONG before Alpha or gold. I ran it once more during late Alpha and it sorted my control problems but none of the things I had noted were fixed, so I gave it a pass until after retail. Big mistake.

Thanks once again for your imput. You say it is a bug in the microsoft store? Can I ask; Is your Motherboard and Graphics card an all in one unit ,or are they separate? What I am trying to establish, is all of us with the same problem, their must be something which is stopping the download of the launcher. What do our computers have in common? is  yours a digital download or a 10 disc installment? Geoff Hart.

    Me too re. giving up.

It's frustrating as Heck to watch these people ignore us and pretend we don't exist in their frenzy to cash in. Interesting that it refuses from Playstation4, I wasn't aware MS was having ANY relationship with Sony. But I agree regards XBox, it refuses to download THROUGH the Xbox servers, or so it would seem. As I say, Outer Worlds installs and plays fine and all of my other MS stuff through there works as advertised. Just not this. Not since Beta.

Probably just as well, Austin's product and it's add ons are making a KILLING off me. ALL of the West Coast of the US in True Earth HD plus the UK the same. 2 Terabytes of ORBX and the interesting thing is their methods are patented, MS can't use them, only allow them to be re-sold or contract for features in-sim. Since they STILL blow this product away from any altitude I will sick with the ORBX True Earth in the competition for now.

I miss ATC, and the one in the new product is much improved. But it doesn't make up for the abysmal performance in other areas, including the flight model, which is after all why we're flying, isn't it? It does feel "fatter" in the digital information it is able to convey to you during flight, that is very much like the competition. Problem is, when the POH, relative conditions and your own common sense disagree with what you are experiencing in-sim. If the wind is at X knots at 06, and I am on 19 at the local in the 172, WHY is yours so different? I have almost every type of payware for that AC it is possible to have and yet yours flys completely differently from ANY of those, in ANY sim. Just doesn't seem to want to get aloft as easily. Good ground handling but the roll out feels like we're doing it through peanut butter, even Tundra tire versions get aloft quicker.

I see Mathias is fixing this thing, it's good to have the code and I expect the Embraer just released to be everything his poor airbus isn't. I had heard he made the one they have in game but I surely won't blame him for that, it is only a shape after all. I have his Airbus for the LM sim and it is excellent, on a par with the QOTSII from PMDG. With aircraft and sceneries from the aftermarket such as Aerosoft, MSFS will grow and thrive. But for those of us with this bug/feature it has left a bitter taste.

As someone who makes the business decisions on all sorts of things for my small medically focused company I will once again be coming to decision time- stay with iPads and an iMac CTO or jump ship. Thank you for making up my mind for me, Microsoft. This same thing happened last time, too. You somehow plunged yourself OUT of the running with something serendipitous, thus placing the current iPad- iMac configuration into place.
