here were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80080005).

This is the error I get every time for a few days.

I tried troubleshooting but it didn't work. 

Many have said in other queries(for the same problem) to Reset SoftwareDistribution & Catroot2 folders. But I'm scared to do that because I'm worried if something happens to my laptop.

Please suggest a way to solve this issue.

This is a frequent issue sometimes caused by driver compatibility errors: Windows 10 Update Assistant (microsoft.com)

You could try downloading the Windows Update Assistant. It can help bump your version of windows past this sort of update error to the latest version.

Choose the 1st option for the update assistant: Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

    you are right. maybe our windows10 ver. (1909) was the problem!

    but my first try failed and I encountered an error (see the picture) because my antivirus was active! you should inactive your antivirus service via mscconfig (in other words you need clean boot). Maybe it is insufficient to turn off the real-time protection of your antivirus from its UI!

    I was having this same issue where I got the error notification and "checking for updates" failed to really do anything. Looking at my Windows 10 version in more detail, I realized I was running 1909 which is now considered at End of Service. I came across information about a piece of software called Windows Update Assistant which helps bring your version of Windows to the latest May 2021 version (version 21H1). Windows update assistant download can be found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    After running this update, the issue has been resolved.
