This is the error I get every time for a few days.
I tried troubleshooting but it didn't work.
Many have said in other queries(for the same problem) to Reset SoftwareDistribution & Catroot2 folders. But I'm scared to do that because I'm worried if something happens to my laptop.
Please suggest a way to solve this issue.

This is a frequent issue sometimes caused by driver compatibility errors: Windows 10 Update Assistant (microsoft.com)
You could try downloading the Windows Update Assistant. It can help bump your version of windows past this sort of update error to the latest version.
Choose the 1st option for the update assistant: Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
DebraK1 - have you found anything that has worked yet? I've been troubleshooting this for two weeks and still have not found the solution. My system indicates there is no corruption but I can not get past "your device is missing important security & quality fixes". I can't identify what security & quality fixes are missing and I can't get Windows 10 to do an update.

Please try installing the latest feature update manually and let us know.
The fastest way to get the upgrade is through the Media creation tool or ISO file.
Please download the Media Creation Tool and select "Upgrade this PC now".

I was having this same issue where I got the error notification and "checking for updates" failed to really do anything. Looking at my Windows 10 version in more detail, I realized I was running 1909 which is now considered at End of Service. I came across information about a piece of software called Windows Update Assistant which helps bring your version of Windows to the latest May 2021 version (version 21H1). Windows update assistant download can be found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
After running this update, the issue has been resolved.
