Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

    Hello all. :)

    Had to do a reboot for something else, and everything is normal again - as expected.

    I will post back again, when the globe reappears. (and we all know it will at this point.....)

    This is insanity. 

    This bug breaks programs like Adobe Creative Cloud, meaning that I can no longer sync ANY fonts or cloud settings. 

    I've attempted all of the solutions on here, but to no avail. 

    Occasionally this issue goes away after rebooting, but I've lost count of the time I've lost due to this bug. :(

    All I can hope for, is that MS do indeed know about this issue, and are working to fix it, but you never really seem to get any confirmation from MS as to if they are or not.  It would be nice to know one way or the other.

    I'm still OK for now, but I fully expect it to return.  I'd actually be surprised if it DIDN'T come back again.

    Yes, my Spodify won't work with the globe icon, as it reports it has no internet connection.  MS store won't work for the same reason, and I had to reboot before cos when I tried to re-install yet again the voice packs(see my other thread here) that had once again vanished after installing them with no warning from the OS at all, Settings moaned that it could not check what voice packs were installed - as I don't appear to have an internet connection......

    I just hope they(MS) do something about this, cos it is affecting lots and lots of people now.  Perhaps they ARE working on it, but I get the feeling more and more that Windows 10 is like a mini-Skynet now - it makes decisions on its own about what it thinks is best, and locks you out of the decision making process.  The updates seem to be MS's attempt to control W10 becoming too self-aware. ;)

    I had a call out today where client said that some of their programs were no longer opening things, and they had reverted to the MS default ones.  When I got there and opened Settings, one type of file after another kept triggering a MS popup saying that the app for that fliletype has caused some issue, and so W10 is resetting it back to the MS defaults - for ALL their filetypes, one after another.  Music, videos, pictures - everything defaulted back to the MS apps.  That should never happen, and certainly not without the user approving it.  Their virus software was up to date, and they had run a scan before they called me, and there were no detected problems.

    W10 just decided to do it, and did not give you the choice of if you wanted to, it just TOLD you: "I am changing all the default programs back to the MS ones."  Bah!

    It still makes me sigh rather a lot of the time, the hoops you have to jump through with W10, if you DON'T want to use the MS default programs and apps for EVERYTHING.

    ....but I digress.....

    EDIT: Globe icon back again this morning, so that seems to be averaging about one day or so between the time you reboot, and the problem appears.  I am posting all these times, in the hope that it will perhaps help establish some form of timeframe that might help someone track down when and why this is happening.  It's ALWAYS good on a reboot, but people can't be rebooting their machines every day.  Not these days.  Most people leave their machines on 24/7 as I do, and just turn off the monitors.  The main reason is that it takes time for a full reboot vs just a few seconds to switch the monitor(s) back on and you're good to go.  It would be nice if someone from MS would confirm this issue and that they are working to fix it, but I don't recall reading anything official.  If anyone HAS, can they please link me to it.
