Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

    Did anyone here install October cumulative update for W10 2004 build (October 1, 2020—KB4577063 (OS Build 19041.546) Preview (microsoft.com)?

    I have but it didn't change anything in my situtation. I still have to enable WiFi network for Windows to detect Internet connection even when I use Ethernet LAN.

    It suppose to resolve some problems with "No Internet" indicator Windows 10 KB4577063 (Build 19041.546) released with major fixes (windowslatest.com)

    The edit to the hosts file lasts for about two to three days - then the globe icon is back, saying I have no internet connection.

    So, while editing the hosts file DOES work temporarily, it does not fix the problem, as the globe icon comes back a few days after you do that, so this is still a big issue that needs attention, and looking at the size of this thread and the number of replies, it does not appear to be getting fixed anytime soon.

    Anyone have any other things you can try to fix this?

    Registry edits don't work, editing the hosts file does not work.

    Well, they DO work, but only for a day or two, then the problem just comes back, so those fixes are not really fixes when doing them does not solve the problem on a long-term basis.
