Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

    If you are good with analyzing network captures I would recommend installing Wireshark or Netmon on your machine, starting a packet capture, and then disocnnect/reconnect to wifi network (or if wired, unplug/replug eth cable).   Wait up to 5 minutes.    Stop the capture.

    You want to see an outbound HTTP query for www.msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt with a valid response with payload containing "Microsoft Connect Test"

    If you see the request go out but no response, you will have to troubleshoot what is either dropping the outbound packet on its way to the internet, or dropping the response on its way back to your client.

    If you see no outbound HTTP request at all it is likely your active probing is disabled, and there are many posts in this thread that show you how to enable it.

    I'm not sure if this was mentioned before or if it will help in any way but this is strange, since i updated Windows to version 2004 i have never had this problem, this was with my slow 12mb/s ADSL connection that was yesterday replaced with 1Gbps Fiber and since then i got this problem, i even thought it was something with the router or the service installation.

    I haven't changed a thing software/hardware related in the PC. At first after connecting the Ethernet cable i remember seeing the connected icon but after a couple of hours i just got the "No internet access" icon and i haven't seen the connected icon since.

    I just don't understand how getting a better connection would cause this.

    EDIT: This solution from Raymond Neeves on page 8 actually worked for me as well.

    run notepad as administrator

    file > open

    go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

    change the file types to All Files (*.*) so you can see it

    hosts should be in the list, open it

    go to the bottom of the file

    add a blank line to the bottom, then add the following two lines (you may be able to get away with just the second one, but it cant hurt to add both)

    13.107.4.52 www.msftconnecttest.com

    13.107.4.52 msftconnecttest.com

    add a blank line at the bottom under these (dont leave the entry as the last line or it may not work)

    save it

    close notepad

    restart windows
