Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

    Wrong again --- why is microsoft pinging it's own site to -determine network connectivity- is beyond dumb, it is dishonest.

    * if you are locking down your systems to ONLY connect to certain sites, then the micro soft of internet connectivity will fail miserably.

    Rather than say "you are not connected to the internet, which by the length of this thread you know is a lie, why don't you -say- what part of the connectivity test is a lie. Or give the user the option to say "I really am connected to the internet, you are are?" (because how you check is flawed city).

    As others have mentioned:

    • it fails when you don't have Automatically detect DNS Server enabled. Why should microsoft care. If they can connect to something , they can. If they can't, they can't. Why is the OS determining, by DNS probes and Web Probes to itself, if it is connecting to the internet. And that the fix is to use google should tell you something.

    I'm not sure what you're specifically claiming here, but reviewing the 6-month old post you're replying to, user ДмитроЖелябін is indicating the proper value for registry setting EnableActiveProbing, value = 1.

    And this advice is correct. That IS the correct value and it should not be changed.

    There's no bug here.

    It is totally a bug --- why Windows checks connectivity that way is beyond wrong. Or at least -say that is how you are connecting to it-.
