Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

    I'm on Win 10 Pro 1909. I tried upgrading to 2004 for the 3rd time and still ended up with globe and unable to connect to the internet. I can access internet fine from other devices, so it isn't the router or my connection.

    Also, when I upgraded to 2004 on the 3rd time, it didn't detect display drivers, which resulted in low resolution and refresh rate being used. I have rolled back to 1909 yet again and everything is normal. I'm avoiding 2004 for as long as possible. v2004 degrades my computer to almost unusable. Can MS just roll out an update so we don't have to mess with registry settings?

    Well, we're now at 576 posts(counting this one) and 19 pages of thread about this problem, so.........I would not hold my breath for any solution anytime soon.  If it was easy to fix, they would have done it by now.  I'm not saying MS aren't aware of the problem, and probably have people looking for a solution, but my guess is that even MS don't understand why their creation is doing this.

    With major updates being larger then the base OS these days, one starts to think that they have banks of computers that work out what the problem is, and code the fix, so you have computers writing code automatically, to fix bugs in the OS, and there is no actual HUMAN coders in the source anymore, or very few.  That would explain a lot.  I could be TOTALLY wrong on that, and I kinda hope I am cos we don't want W10 to turn in to SKYNET, but W10 and the whole Windows OS itself has become such a massive beast and is so convoluted, that I suspect there probably are not many people in the MS source-code department that actually understand what the code is doing themselves.

    THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN FIX THIS GLOBE ICON ISSUE THAT I HAVE FOUND, is a complete and full reboot EVERY time that you see the icon.  Most people like me, prefer to leave their computer on 24/7 and just turn off the monitor(s) at night, but if you want to be rid of the globe icon, it seems that you HAVE to do a full reboot each and every time you see the icon.  That seems to fix it for about two to three days on average, and then the icon is  back again - so you then have to do a full reboot again to get around that issue.

    I think that is all anyone can do at this point.

    For now, anyway.

    I'm a software engineer and I cannot figure this out.  On my windows PC I have a globe that says "No Internet access"

    but I can browse the internet.  Heck I'm posting this post!

    @Microsoft.  What is going on?  How do I fix this?
