Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

This problem with Windows 10 has been known for at least two years. I built a PC two years ago and no matter what kind of troubleshooting tries I came up with I have never been able to have Windows recognize that I am in fact connected to the Internet since the only thing that does not seem to work is trying to connect to the Windows store. I largely ignored this problem until recently I had to upgrade Windows office and it requires connecting to the internet (which of course I already am!) But no matter it refuses to acknowledge that. Since I'm dealing with nothing but Microsoft products Windows 10 and Windows office you would think after two years Microsoft would remedy this problem without requiring a degree in computer science. If anyone could help me out right now I would greatly appreciate it. I have tried all the known solutions ad nauseam over the years and none of them have helped. I have removed all adapters I have set and assigned IP address to the PC that is dedicated to static in my modem, which the PC is connected to.

The Windows network troubleshooter is as useless now as it was two years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or if no one has approved solution to this problem how do I register my new copy of office when my computer won't allow me to register it online with Microsoft?

Many thanks for any suggestions. I am extremely frustrated at this point with Microsoft.

Not sure where the "MS for some reason insists that the ipv6 probes work as well" is coming from, but IPv6 probing is NOT a requirement for NCSI to determine IPv4 connectivity.

Folks, the issue here is that in 2004 release, MS for some reason insists that the ipv6 probes work as well.... which for those of us who don't run IPv6 is an issue. These are the only settings I had to change, none of the others recommend across 18 pages....

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet\

Rename the probe key name (not the value of the key) which contains the name v6 and reboot. Then it all magically comes back.

So I changed mine to:

ActiveDnsProbeContentV6_old

ActiveDnsProbeHostV6_old

ActiveWebProbeContentV6_old

ActiveWebProbeHostV6_old

ActiveWebProbePathV6_old
