Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

    I may have found the culprit and, if so, will be eating some humble pie as well.

    It appears that some privacy tools that worked perfectly in 1903/1909 don't work as intended in 2004. Once I removed a particular NCSI setting (set by a privacy tool) my internet was recognized again at my home location. Maybe the NCSI passive polling is now broken in 2004..? Maybe Microsoft changed how NCSI works? I can only speculate at this point.

    I won't be able to test at a secondary location for several days. This is the location where I really needed the indicator to work so that MS Office apps could function normally. I'll report back when I test there but for now this can be considered solved. At least for me.

    Apologies for my Homer Simpson moment. D'oh!

    I have the same issue ever since I updated to 2004, around an hour after I turn my laptop on it changes to connected and I can use outlook.

    any ideas?

    Hello Alceryes,

    That is exactly the issue I faced too. After the update from Windows 10 1909 to 2004 I have this issue. When I activate the Active Probing in the Registery it works again after a reboot.  However that also triggers Microsoft Edge Browser with Bing. Which I don't want. I am on FIrefox with my on startup page.
