Windows crashing after clicking PERFORMANCE tab under Task Manager

Hello Windows Community folks

Windows 10 keeps crashing after I click Performance TAB in Task Manager. It crashes the windows going into the infamous Green screen with reason- Windows preview build failed. I have tried several debug options like cmd SFC Scan, DISM.

I have not specifically touched registry keys as I am afraid I will end up breaking something else.

What options do I have? Please suggest.

this helped for me,

I changed

NVIDIA System Control > 3D Settings > Global Settings > Preferred GPU

from "NVIDIA high performance processor"

back to "auto select"

    I have a laptop, but interestingly, also the crucial mx500. Could that be the issue? 🤔

    That sounds helpful, but can you please point out what drivers you found as the culprit? This application says i have 28 outdated drivers and it's quite slow in installing updates! 

    Appreciate your help.

    I have the exact same issue. It started just today. I have reinstalled my Windows to a new SSD and put my HDD into a caddy (in place of the DVD drive). Are you in a similar scenario? I'm running a Crucial MX500 and performance was flawless till the windows update arrived. I had been using it smoothly for over a week now. Microsoft needs to start paying attention here.

    I managed to fix the task manager crashes after a lot of trial and error. 

    To do that I had to install a 3rd party driver update utility. The one I used was driverdoc - a free application - although the free version only updates one driver before having to reboot. Apparently the official HP site for my laptop does not have the most updated drivers. This worked for 2 different HP laptops I own.

    Only issue remaining with the task manager is the empty startup page - not sure if anything short of a full reset would resolve that...
