Windows crashing after clicking PERFORMANCE tab under Task Manager

Hello Windows Community folks

Windows 10 keeps crashing after I click Performance TAB in Task Manager. It crashes the windows going into the infamous Green screen with reason- Windows preview build failed. I have tried several debug options like cmd SFC Scan, DISM.

I have not specifically touched registry keys as I am afraid I will end up breaking something else.

What options do I have? Please suggest.

this helped for me,

I changed

NVIDIA System Control > 3D Settings > Global Settings > Preferred GPU

from "NVIDIA high performance processor"

back to "auto select"

    Guys, updating the Realtek Audio Driver using DriverDoc worked for now! I can access the Performance tab without any problem. This is one weird issue! Do try updating the rest of your drivers, as user GeorgeWadie above suggested. 

    I will report back if the issue repeats, but for now it has been okay for an hour. 

    Edit: And it's back. I am too scared to even go there anymore. I guess I can live without going in there till the next Windows update.

    I too have an M4600 with a Crucial SSD as the main drive and a SSHD in the CD bay.  I am also seeing that any use of the performance tab in the control panel close the control panel down instantly.

    I too have a laptop, a Dell precision m 4600, and I also have windows installed on an SSD and hard drive in a caddy separately. The 256 gig SSD and a 750 gig hard drive if that matters.

    I also have problems with this Windows installation in which file search does nothing – I click it on there on the taskbar or in explorer and nothing happens.

    Couldn't tell unfortunately. I started with the motherboard drivers (not the preliferal devices) and at first was testing after each new driver, but the system kept crashing, and I was afraid of ruin the installation on one of the crashes, so I went ahead and updated all. At the end no crashes.

    Would be interesting to identify the exact culprit. Do tell me if you succeed.
