NVIDIA System Control > 3D Settings > Global Settings > Preferred GPU
from "NVIDIA high performance processor"
back to "auto select"

Hello Windows Community folks
Windows 10 keeps crashing after I click Performance TAB in Task Manager. It crashes the windows going into the infamous Green screen with reason- Windows preview build failed. I have tried several debug options like cmd SFC Scan, DISM.
I have not specifically touched registry keys as I am afraid I will end up breaking something else.
What options do I have? Please suggest.

my hp laptop was all good for years now until the below....
i did 2004 update to my windows 10 on 18th-jul and bsod started randomly once or twice a day after a couple of days. There was no pattern that i can observe there other than pc was slow and task manager shows 100 percent disk usage My hp laptop became useless after this bsod issue as i had no idea when it would crash with system service exception.
after trying several things based on forum searches, google searches for 100% disk usage after 2004 update like removal of antivirus app, windows memory diagnostic, full top to bottom scan with antivirus installing again, disabling superfetch/windows search etc - it still gave me bsod randomly.
with a lot of frustration after struggling with this issue for the past 2 weeks, i did a pc reset from recovery options by chosing keep my data as it is and reinstalling from my device itself to eliminate and system files corruption.
that did not help and bsod was again there. Then again
i looked at the memory dump file and minidumps directory with bluescreenview and it gave a hint that the driver causing pc to crash is ntoskrnl.exe predominantly 9 out of 10 crashes. then again into forums, googling and installed device driver apps to update device drivers with a hope that it will solve but it did not. But interestingly i observed a pattern that it crashed almost repetitively 3 to 4 times now when i open task manager and trying to go to performance tab.
can somone please help post if we have a solution to get this fixed?

2020-08-13T20:25:36+00:00 I've been reading this thread since I made my first contribution, trying this and that. New Realtek drivers didn't help, and I don't trust Driverdoc. What I eventually did was allow Microsoft Update to update my drivers (I'd disabled automatic driver updates using OOSU10). That worked! I noticed during the update process that the drivers installed were for my relatively ancient NVIDIA graphics card and for an unnamed USB device — two in all. For what it's worth to my fellow troubleshooters, I never had the problem of a blank Startup tab.

2020-08-13T12:31:11+00:00 Similar problem - task manager crashes when selecting the Performance tab. On windows pro 2004, I could not fix it, I tried so many updates not worked. if anyone knows how to fix it, please share it with all of us.
