Windows 10 2004 optimization/defrag bug

Hi all

I've just completed the Windows 10 2004 upgrade and I have noticed 2 issues.

When I manually trim my SSD in the drive defrag/optimize tool in windows and I reboot it says 'never optimized' when i go back. I heard this was a bug in insider preview which they obviously didn't fix.
I happened to have the defrag/optimize tool open at the same time as Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance, I initiated a manual maintenance and I caught windows defragging my SSD and then it trimmed it straight afterwards. If i click the optimize button in defrag/optimize tool it only trims it and not defrag.

This seem to only happen when Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance initiates its automatic maintenance or if I select start maintenance.

This is concerning as it should never attempt to defrag an SSD.

My laptop is only a few months old and came with a PCIe SSD and Windows 10 1909 so there is no compatibility or lack of trim support issues obviously.

I have disabled scheduled weekly optimizations in the defrag/optimize tool which prevents it from attempting to defrag when the control penal maintenance attempts its maintenance when the computer is idle.

I want to let everyone know that this is happening so others are aware. My other computers that have the latest update are also doing it.

Seems like this update kb4566782 solves the problem. Update contain defrag.exe.

It doesn't solve anything at all ... and the so called August C patch week ??? When is that supposed to be? Besides the description of that patch doesn't mention in any way a "defrag" solution at all.

edit: .. and I'm "already" on 19042.450 ... 20H2 build.

My windows is automatically downloaded the update. It turns the function back on. But its still not works properly. After every restart it seems like optimisation never runs.

Ergo, nothing was solved as it just behaves like before ...

seems to be coming this week. (It's still Monday in Indonesia, usually Tuesday Local Time. In Indonesia, the update is on Wednesday). The month of September will include a defrag bug fix in Windows 10 May 2020 Update in cumulative updates for Windows 10.

In latest Insider Build Windows 10 20197 (Dev channel) at least all Esent 642 errors are fixed. But the defrag bug is not fixed there either (when you manually run automatic maintenance or under task scheduler "Microsoft -> Windows -> Defrag -> ScheduledDefrag")

Sorry Mister. I don't use the Windows Insider Dev Channel. Because It Is Very Unstable. What I'm looking forward to Around September - October 2020 I will try Windows 10 20H2 if it's already on the Insider Release Preview Channel. because of minimal bugs like the RTM version. With New Start Menu and Other Features.

My device is Notebook. An old Toshiba Satellite L645 notebook.
