Windows 10 2004 optimization/defrag bug

Hi all

I've just completed the Windows 10 2004 upgrade and I have noticed 2 issues.

  1. When I manually trim my SSD in the drive defrag/optimize tool in windows and I reboot it says 'never optimized' when i go back. I heard this was a bug in insider preview which they obviously didn't fix. 
  2. I happened to have the defrag/optimize tool open at the same time as Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance, I initiated a manual maintenance and I caught windows defragging my SSD and then it trimmed it straight afterwards. If i click the optimize button in defrag/optimize tool it only trims it and not defrag.

This seem to only happen when Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance initiates its automatic maintenance or if I select start maintenance.

This is concerning as it should never attempt to defrag an SSD.

My laptop is only a few months old and came with a PCIe SSD and Windows 10 1909 so there is no compatibility or lack of trim support issues obviously.

I have disabled scheduled weekly optimizations in the defrag/optimize tool which prevents it from attempting to defrag when the control penal maintenance attempts its maintenance when the computer is idle.

I want to let everyone know that this is happening so others are aware. My other computers that have the latest update are also doing it.

    make sure you turn off auto optimization because it will keep running over and over killing your SSD with redundant writes to the drive shortening the drives lifespan until Microsoft fixes the problem

    maybe if everyone ask  companys if the same issue microsoft would get on the problem

    All you have to do is add your voice and problem to the Feedback Hub. I am sure MS knows about these issues going on but the problem is when and if they act on them through update fixes which will be on the next patch Tuesday on July 14th but they may surprise us all and release a couple earlier. If it were me I would stop tweaking  the settings on your computer. If you can I would roll your computer back to the version it was on before if you are still inside the 10 day cutoff period.  Now as far as your defrag problem you need to go to your defrag app and go down to the "schedule" and make sure it is on then  click on "change settings"  then under optimization click on  run on a schedule and set the frequency to weekly. Now go down to "drives"  and click on "choose" and when that opens uncheck the Windows (C) "if you have an SSD" where Windows files is located then check Data (D): which will be your hard drive where you store pics, videos etc etc. Now I have both an SSD and an HDD. I realize it will keep saying Never Run and MS knows this as well but I am sure they are working on this as this problem has been written up in many Windows websites. All these little bugs drive me crazy as well but there is nothing you and I can do about them as like I said MS created the problems in their flawed update and MS needs to fix them.

    I filed 1 bug in 1804.

    One in 1809. One in 1904. One in 1909. And one in 2004....its been 2 years.

    Dude, same issues here.

    Everything runs slow. System has strange hangs and freezes. Programs fail to respond for a while.

    And today suddenly system didn't boot, and had to use USB to fix MBR!!

    Seriously Microsoft needs to handle the issues and fix the 2004 version as it's just BAD!!!
