Windows 10 2004 optimization/defrag bug

Hi all

I've just completed the Windows 10 2004 upgrade and I have noticed 2 issues.

  1. When I manually trim my SSD in the drive defrag/optimize tool in windows and I reboot it says 'never optimized' when i go back. I heard this was a bug in insider preview which they obviously didn't fix. 
  2. I happened to have the defrag/optimize tool open at the same time as Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance, I initiated a manual maintenance and I caught windows defragging my SSD and then it trimmed it straight afterwards. If i click the optimize button in defrag/optimize tool it only trims it and not defrag.

This seem to only happen when Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance initiates its automatic maintenance or if I select start maintenance.

This is concerning as it should never attempt to defrag an SSD.

My laptop is only a few months old and came with a PCIe SSD and Windows 10 1909 so there is no compatibility or lack of trim support issues obviously.

I have disabled scheduled weekly optimizations in the defrag/optimize tool which prevents it from attempting to defrag when the control penal maintenance attempts its maintenance when the computer is idle.

I want to let everyone know that this is happening so others are aware. My other computers that have the latest update are also doing it.

    Just deactivate the automatic schedule, where is the issue? This was already said several times.

    i deactivated, but that is just a workaround, not a fix

    man... there is something wrong that when the windows maintanance starts, it will trim AND DEFRAG any volume, if it is a SSD will do both, if is a HDD will try to do both, TRIM will fail in this case and will be an alert on windows event viewer for that...

    you can try on your own computer, enable defrag, starts on windows maintanance and it will defrag it, the worse problem is that, everytime you reboot your computer, windows dont know that it has done the maintanance on the SSD, and will do that again on the next schedule... in the worst scenario, windows will defrag and trim all the SSD and HDD and anyother volume on the system, everyday if the person reboots the computer or turns off and on everyday

    The bug is just, that it forgets the time, it last TRIMMED the ssd, so it will do it every day, instead every week. THE END

    People in this post seem to be too young, to know what defrag means, and how long it takes, it would take 1-2 hours to defrag a SSD, not just magically 5 seconds WHAT TRIM IS. It wont ever say defrag for a SSD it will just say "optimize" which is TRIM.

    I just tried it on all my PCs, it just trims when doing a manual optimize.

    Really? 1-2 hours for an SSD defrag? gosh ... where was I when servicing computers over the last 40 years ... oops, PC's over the last 40 .. computers over the last 50 ... good grief .. 

    .. and despite your high spirits ... starting the MAINTENANCE says "STARTING DEFRAG ..." but maybe there is a part that you don't get .. oh well ... 

    You dont seem to understand anything. *cringe* What are you even talking about, there is no "maintenance" really anymore in Windows 10, that is a fossil from Windows <= 7. There is just some minor automatic maintenance, which doesnt do any defrag for SSDs. Stop triggering manual maintenance then, for no reason.

    maintenance still there on windows 10, it is schedule to run everyweek at 2 or 3 am... or next time the computer is idle after that time...

    i would like to say it is not defragmenting, but... the images prove otherwise...

    this i took before starting the maintanance..

    this second one is just now, more or less one hour after

    it already used 75GB on my SSD, and i wasn't doing anything, i went out to get some hamburguers and was eating...

    my windows is this, PT-BR version
