Any idea why this is? l am literally running a very modern £1600 PC with very modern hardware (approx 6 months old).

    Hi,

    there may be several reasons, including software incompatible with 2004, hardware without drivers for 2004 or incompatible with 2004 and so on. Is there any more detailed description?

    Why doesn't Microsoft inform us the reasons why our Windows 10 device is "not quite ready for update"? And, perhaps, at what point time our devices might evolve to be ready for update. Better yet inform each user why his or her particular device is "not quite ready for update" and what remedies might make it "ready for update". Maybe the remedies could be provided by Microsoft.

    I also would really like a different message than 'your computer is not ready'.

    Maybe then I could do something to make it ready.

    Or maybe the problem isn't me, but actually is 'we're rolling stuff out slowly and due to detected hardware conflicts which might occur on your system, we're holding back the update for now'

    The update assistant says there's no new updates by the way.

    Just FYI : trying to upgrade a 4-5 y/o Lenovo Thinkcenter with W10 Pro : the Windows Update route just failed with a non specific error message, then the update itself disappeared from my update page, replaced with information that 2004 is here and will be available soon. So I went the Upgrade Assistant way instead : contrary to earlier reports here, the Assistant is now also producing the Not Ready message. I know, I just got it. They've obviously made sure you don't/can't upgrade if they don't want you to.

    So I wait.

    that diagnostic information is not given because you do not need to know.

    you dont need to like get angry if some update is made available for some other users first before everything is compatible with your particular hardware / software.

    Excuse me, but it's my computer, my licensed OS, my software, and I DO need to know what you are doing with it so that I can plan its use and upgrades.

    When someone tells me that I do not need to know what someone else is doing with my property and my time, I have to wonder... many things.
