Cumulative updates - May 12th 2020

Well, they have managed to sabotage Cortana pretty good. She no longer responds to "Hey, Cortana" she can no longer shut off my device. I suppose if I remember to press the keys that activate her I will find other things that are no longer working with her.

They say "Use your School or Work Account" with her now. As though they think that is all she was good for.

Actually, you know, as a disabled senior citizen I found her help INVALUABLE in my day to day computing needs. I almost never had to touch the keyboard unless I actually wanted to post something somewhere.

Like here.

And when you have arthritis that's one heck of a boon, my friends.

Also she could tell jokes and give me the weather and a whole host of other things besides opening programs and so on without my having to do ANYTHING but say "Hey Cortana, do such and so."

Sure when I asked for her to run the VLC Media Player or iTunes or Steam or whatever she'd offer me some choices like "Which version of (insert program name here) do you want and I'd tell her (the answer was, most often "The First One" and then she'd run it.)

Sometimes when I was feeling playful I'd say "Gee! I dunno."

And then she'd say "Which one did you want" sounding slightly amused as though she knew I was pulling her virtual leg. And then I'd tell her.

Brightened my day, somehow.

Now, it's frankly faster to open the program myself then launch her with win key +C and then ask her to do things. Or worse, TYPE MY REQUEST INTO HER.

Hope they send out an update to get her back functioning.

none of the steps mentioned above in your solving methods have worked to solve my issue with Cumulative update - May 2020. I am running windows 10 pro x64 base system version 1909 . I had all other cumulative updates installed successfully except this one of May 2020 (KB4556799) - Error 0x800f0900. For the last 2 weeks I have followed most of the methods published to solve the May 2020 cumulative update issue but did not work at all!!!

I am puzzled with what happened to have this issue soooo complicated to be solved! And who's fault is it, because my computer windows update system worked perfectly with all other cumulative updates then suddenly stopped working for this specific update. Why Microsoft windows is unable solving this issue automatically ? I appreciate if you have other method that stops this issue.

Here we go again another massive Microsoft, windows update failure. Tried to install KB4556799 yesterday but yet again the we can't log you into your account gremlin raised its ugly head. So once again I had to uninstall the update. and block all updates for as long as allowed. Windows continues to appear to have had its day. Its incredible that the whole of Microsoft's technical department cannot create usable, workable, harmless updates. All this restart 10 times, fly a kite, drink 22 cups of coffee is rubbish. Why can't Microsoft simply admit that they have no idea what the problem is.

Horrendous

After all of the miscellaneous issues associated with this update, I wish I was so lucky to say it was an app, a sound card, keyboard, etc.

I don't even get to the Windows screen - I'm in a virtual loop after "undoing changes." I can't enter safe mode. Also should Microsoft come back and suggest using an update to remedy the issue, I can't even get to the BIOS to change the boot order to USB. 

Needless to say, I feel the need to quote Lucy from the Peanuts: AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH! Unfortunately this is no laughing matter. I have files upon files (to say nothing of apps) that haven't been b/u which sounds like the case for many of us posting here.

I feel SOOOOO reassured that Microsoft is concerned about us being able to WORK REMOTELY at the most needed time ever!! REALLY great timing. It's time I seriously consider being "UN-simulated" & head back to my personal favorite of old. NOW TO CALL MY MANAGER TO SAY I WON'T BE ABLE TO WORK TODAY NOR DO I KNOW WHEN I CAN RETURN. For all I know this pandemic may be over before they're able to resolve this one.
