I don't work for Microsoft I just use their product and all I can do is tell folks what I do to address these issues.
You are free to do as you choose.
I might mention that my Updates install just fine and work well so apparently I am doing something right. And what I do is learn how to work WITH my computer so that I can accomplish what I want to.
This means I make use of the tools they give me.
For example:
The above page can be found here: https://community.windows.com/en-us/videos/device-performance-health-checkup-for-your-pcs-wellness/j5WDIo8hyCI?from=WindowsSecurityApp-DeviceHealthTab&OCID=WSDEVICEHEALTH
In other words, like any of our modern toys I take time to learn how to keep it purring along happily.
And, finally, I pay attention to all the resources and guides that Microsoft offers us for free instead of asking friends or people I met on FB or whatever what I should do:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hub/4099151/windows-security-help
You can find the Catalog here: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx if the automatic updates create issues for you it is sometimes best to make sure all TRACES of the failed ones are removed from your device and then find the appropriate update by kb number there and install it manually.
AND always remember chkdsk/f
SFC /SCANNOW
AND
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth && DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
It's astonishing how often those and the removal of junk as I recommended earlier in this thread and even a check to see if one needs to run an optimization
can help keep things running smoothly. I know most of us have this set to run automatically but if your device is getting sluggish a check of this to make sure all drives are AT optimum (and not fragmented to Albuquerque and Back doesn't hurt.)
