Too bad Microsoft didn't get it right for many of us. my machine it was ready to load the first day with no error message, at all. Following behind it were two "quality" updates, which is when all my problems began. Exactly like the last time I had the exact same issues two months ago. Thanks for this explanation, though.

Microsoft is preventing a large number of devices from updating to the Windows 10 May 2020 Update. While the software company released the update last week, Microsoft has quietly acknowledged that there are a number of known issues preventing the update from being installed on a variety of PCs

Microsoft has a list of 10 issues it’s currently investigating, and 9 of them have resulted in a “compatibility hold” which stops the Windows 10 May 2020 Update from being installed via Windows Update. One issue involving unexpected errors or reboots with always-on, always-connected devices, affects devices like Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 or Surface Laptop 3.

if you’ve been checking Windows Update for the May 2020 Update and not seeing anything, then it’s likely that your device is being blocked or throttled from updating. Microsoft has also added a warning to Windows Update over the weekend for devices that aren’t ready to be updated.

Microsoft is also “slowly throttling up” the availability of the Windows 10 May 2020 Update through Windows Update, so the option might just not be appearing for many regardless of device and driver blocks.

Windows Update isn’t the only way to get the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, though. You can also force it through Microsoft’s update assistant. The tool even bypasses the blocks that Microsoft has put in place for affected systems. We wouldn’t recommend using the tool if Windows Update has flagged potential problems, though.

I hope this helps. It's been a long time since I've done it, so bare with me. At one point in time I lost my curser and touch pad on my laptop. It had to do with a registry error.

I'm assuming you're using a laptop. You'll have to have to first hit your power button and hold it down until it powers off.

Then as you hit (reboot) the power button again, press F12 as soon as you see the screen that shows right before the Windows screen

You should see the black boot menu screen then. Then use the up/down arrows to select Diagnostics. If I remember correctly, this will run a series of tests to check for errors. This might help solve the problem, and you get the power off and restart button. If that's not the problem, then it more than likely happened when you upgraded to Version 2004. There are still apparently kinks in the new version even if it says that Windows 10, Version 2004 is ready to download. That is why I'm waiting for now especially since I got the message that my laptop wasn't quite ready to receive the upgrade. It also said there was nothing I needed to do. When Microsoft gets all these kinks worked out including working with manufacturers to get the drivers we need, then I will take the download when it's finally offered to me.
