[FIX] Windows 10 2004 forget passwords after every restart - Your Windows Guide (yourwindowsguide.com)
No, this doesn't always work. Two systems we were having issues with were completely different. One local only account and one had MS account login. We attempted both ways and even creating new user accounts on computer and issue still happened. As others
posted it appeared to work for a few reboots, but after additional reboots and unspecified time passwords were forgot and requested again.
It seems that we attempt a repair at the end of the day and the next morning the computer is forgetful again.
Also had an attempt consider renaming the NGC folder
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
Inside that, rename the folder NGC to NGC.old then close the File Explorer.
Other support agent also suggested:
- Sign out to every account under Word --> Account.
- Close all the Office apps.
- Disconnect all accounts under Start menu --> Settings --> Accounts --> Access work or school.
- Clear all the Microsoft credentials under Start menu --> Control Panel --> Credential Manager --> Windows Credentials.
- Cleans the computer by going to Start menu --> Disk Cleanup --> Run as administrator --> Check everything --> OK --> Clean.
- Restart the computer - It might takes more time since the cleaning tool does clean the failed updates.
- Open any Office app and sign in to the user's account under File --> Account.
None of these helped. They seemed to help when attempted at the end of the day, but next morning users were required to enter OneDrive, Office Account password, and Outlook password.
Support agent also said the fix should be coming in the 20H2 update, but many insiders that have installed that seem to still be having issues.
