I started having the same problem a couple of weeks ago after the last update.  Tried the repair, uninstall/reinstall of the app per MS instructions and did not work.  The default of "none" is stuck on the import.  It recognizes my camera and shows the new pictures thru the USB, but hangs and crashes when trying to change any setting off of none.  The photo and video app you suggested works.  Thank you.  Hopefully Microsoft can get this fixed!

Go into Microsoft - Apps and type in Photo & Video import - it is a free app and it works

Thanks a lot for this, Perry.  It works well as a short term fix.

To keep everyone updated, I originally posted on this thread early on, 11 days ago now, since when I have bought a new laptop with all the latest hardware and software and very good specs (as I needed to replace my old one anyway).  The problem with MS Photos remains and actually is slightly worse as it crashes as I have so many files to import.  So this clearly is an issue with the App itself since its update several weeks ago and nothing whatsoever to do with my or anyone else's PC or software/hardware configuration.

Hopefully MS will sort this out soon.  But in the meantime thanks for your workaround.

    Jonny
