On second thoughts I might hold fire on trying to fix it myself. If it's a wider problem then maybe Windows will issue their own fix?

cannot get my new photos to upload into photos on windows 10

I'm having exactly the same problem just now. Until recently Windows 10 would only import the photos which had changed since last import and this function no longer works. When I select the option which says "items since last import" it freezes and crashes the Photos app. I've been trying various fixes over the last few days without success. I uninstalled some recent Windows updates but that didn't help. I suspect it was triggered by one of the recent updates. I use a USB cable to connect my Fujifilm camera. This is a very recent change and haven't found any other reference to it on the web. I will work through the various other suggestions such as trying to reinstall the Photo app and see what happens. Not sure how you can uninstall it but will do some searches. I'll report back over the next few days. Can someone at Windows try and replicate this themselves?

I use a camera for most of my photos.  I was able to keep all photos on the scan disk, and each time I took new photos the system settings allowed me to only import the items since the last import.  Now that isn't an option, continues to lock up.  I need to clear my disk each day and load the photos from that day, delete all photos from the scan disk and do the same thing tomorrow.

Anita, you didnt' tell me how you import your pictures and there are multiple ways so I provided several options and then explained why I was doing that.

You still haven't explained what method you're using. Is it USB method? As I already wrote that isn't always reliable. So you might want to try another method. I gave you an overview so you'd know the other methods.

I also gave you troubleshooting steps for importing iPhone pictures. What were the results of those?

    https://windowsreport.com/cant-import-photos-ip... (avoid ad links)

    https://appletoolbox.com/what-to-do-if-you-cant...

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/cant-import-phot...

If those don't work and you are trying to import to Photos app via USB and it fails, then you can try to repair the Photos app:

Reset and Repair Photos app at Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Photos app > Advanced Options. Your pictures will be safe in the User Pictures folder.

If that doesn't help try re-registering the Photos app from Option Two here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3175-apps-re...

If this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

If nothing else helps you can try a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows in about an hour while saving your files, apps and most settings, solves many problems while also bringing it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m....

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post helped you, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

when trying to make it work, the options are to select which ones to upload, or upload all, or upload "items since last import"

you can click on the last option all day long and it never gets selected.  then the screen flashes and photos is closed down.
