sfc /scannow WILL NOT function

(1) Looks like your HDD is fine. That's one big good thing.

(2) Are you showing the full contents of that Autoruns folder? It's missing two items that are in mine, namely Autoruns.chm & Eula.txt. The first provides Help screens. The second might need to be present for Autoruns to run, although I can't quite recall whether it ever was presented. Other than that, the files look fine. Delete the folder & the shortcut. Then, extract again & make a new shortcut.

Although what you did should have worked, I would find somewhere else to extract the files to. Maybe, make a folder in "C:\Program Files" named "SysInternals". Move Autoruns.zip into that folder, & do the extract there. Does it give you all 7 files? Then, right-click Autoruns64.exe, & put the shortcut on the Desktop, etc.

(3) If you can bear to part with them -- absolutely, uninstall all the Cyberlink items. I count 7 of them left, & that will be 7 fewer possible causes of the difficulties. The Power Media Player hopefully disappears by the time you reach bottom. It could be part of CyberLink Media Suite 10.

(4) Your reinstall of graphics drivers appears to have gone well. I hope it solves the problem with the programs. Otherwise, maybe they are the ones that need to be repaired. Is there a repair button for them at "START, Settings, Apps"? Click the app, then any Advanced Options button that may show up.

(5) BING & Zune are Microsoft Store apps. They come in a different way than the Windows updates. It's good they are coming in & the Defender updates too. We really need to get Windows update working, though.

(6) I had a "Critical event for Windows Shell Experience Host" too once/twice. It self-corrected, meaning it hasn't shown up for quite a while.

Keep at it. When enough is done, maybe Windows update will begin to work again. I want your computer to have all the quality updates before trying 1909 again.

1. a, b, c) I got CHKDSK /R to run through, well you did, then goofed -typed exit thinking to open notepad and paste it. Shouldn't have done that. But I did read it first and it said there wasn't any bad things in any of the 5 stages. It did take a while but I believe I had run it years ago before all of this started.  I ran windows version first  gave me this

2. I "extracted here" for autorun.zip (on desktop) and then put everything in a folder called autorun on the desktop. Have put a shortcut with run as administrator on desktop but it still runs fast (not as fast as yesterday but too fast to read) and then shuts off. this is what was extracted.

3) This is all the cyberlink programs.

I've uninstalled 14 now wondered if they should all go.

Many of the other Xs in Reliability History are stopped working. Programs stopped responding, my graphic programs do that a lot so I uninstalled my grapic driver software and reinstalled it last night, since I read that's sometimes the problem, but haven't had time to see if it helped or not. Windows failed to start because of a problem with the hard disk one day ad one minute later PowerDVD14Agent.exe stopped working.

Reliability History for today so far. Apparently security updates are still able to install without a fit and I don't even use Bing or Zune Music but they get through.

Not sure how media player stopped working even after it was uninstalled- I did look and it was gone in the Settings>Programs>Uninstall

I think that's about when I wanted to get out of Command Prompt and back into Windows.

(1) Absolutely, power outages can cause damage to hardware & software, if they come at an inopportune moment. Bugchecks & bluescreens will ensue. A UPS is a must for a desktop. But I never installed the software that came with mine to automatically do the shutdown. It provided 20/so minutes for me to do it myself.

As the HDD is most susceptible to damage from it, too bad "CHKDSK /R" won't run for you.

(a) What went wrong with that? Try it again now that the letters are straightened out.

(b) Or Shift+Restart, & type "CHKDSK  C:  /R" into its Command Prompt.

Warning: That ran for 12+ hours on my 1 TB HDD when I first ran it. And yours is that large too. Subsequent runs were a mere 3.5 hours apiece.

(c) Maybe do the Windows version instead, which is much, much quicker. I've read - if it finds something serious - it will reboot automatically & do the CHKDSK. Right-click C: in File Explorer, & select Properties. Then,****at the Tools tab, click Check...

(2) Regarding Autoruns, did you extract Autoruns.zip into a folder -- not just open it...?...

Did it have all the stuff in your folder that I showed in mine? Did you right-click Autoruns64.exe & make a shortcut onto the Desktop? Then, right-click the shortcut, select Properties, click the Advanced button, & put a check into "Run as Administrator"...

Then try the shortcut. I hope that makes a difference.

Yep, sometimes they will turn themselves back on. I've got something that does that too. Under the circumstances you describe, I think you should uninstall PowerDVD14. Then, go back into Reliability History & scan those critical events (red X's) for more repeat offenders to deal with (if any).
