zoom and windows 10 - microphone and speaker drop off

I am trying to use zoom on my Windows 10 HP laptop, but the microphone and speaker drop off after just a short time.  My speaker is a "Realtek".  What settings should I be using?  I have both the speaker and microphone set to work with the app.

    I have the same problem.  It happened this month so I download the old version of zoom.  So far so good

    BUMP.... Brand new laptop, everything works great except when daughter is in a zoom meeting for 1st grade.  Mic and Speaker fail, loud noise, either fan or speaker have to reboot whole laptop.  Need someone to resolve this.

    I got this working, for a short while.  It worked after I was sure my system was fully up-to-date with drivers and software.  Then in Zoom, for one day, the wireless earphones with mic worked.  Since then it is stopped, no success.  I am adding this reply to document my experience.  By the way, whilst it worked, in Zoom "same as system" was selected for both choices.  I continue to try and get it going.  I've no idea if the problem is on the side of Zoom or the laptop.  Just the same.  It is a problem.  continued.

    We have the same issues.  Brand new Dell XPS 13 1390, purchased for the school year and all of the Zooms required.  Microphone works just fine except in Zoom and Google Meets.  I have spent about 10 hours on this issue, including contacting Dell and reinstalling the drivers, checking all settings etc.  Dell now wants to charge me $99 for software consultation.  This is extremely frustrating.

    I have exact same problem with a new Dell laptop.  It works fine with Microsoft Teams meetings but not with Zoom or GotoMeeting.
