I am trying to use zoom on my Windows 10 HP laptop, but the microphone and speaker drop off after just a short time.  My speaker is a "Realtek".  What settings should I be using?  I have both the speaker and microphone set to work with the app.

I have a new Dell Inspiron Windows 10, 64-bit laptop.  I have installed and updated to the latest REALTEK drivers.  EVERY time, whether I use a headset OR the built-in microphone and speaker,  I "test" the microphone and speaker before HOSTING the Zoom meeting.  The tests are successful.  Yet after 10 to 15 minutes my microphone apparently mutes (it does NOT indicate mute) - and does NOT function even after I quit Zoom and restart.

Nobody else has a problem with Zoom microphone.  And I did  not have a problem with an old Samsung android-OS using Zoom.   I am very savvy with PCs and software - but not Windows.

Does anyone have a fix for this.  Zoom Support is useless.

Have there been any reports from users on Windows platforms that do not use RealTek hardware?

You are my hero!  I've been dealing with this issue for months now.  My microphone worked in every application but Zoom.  I couldn't complete a sentence without it fading out my voice to those listening.  I have a new Dell Latitude 5300 laptop.  I'll repeat your instructions for those who may want to try this fix:

    • Open Sound Settings>Input>Device Properties>Additional Device Properties>Advanced tab
      • Uncheck “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”
      • Uncheck “Enable audio enhancements”
      • Apply

Perhaps someone could tell the Zoom rep that the issue is not confined to HP. I use a homebrew desktop based on an ASUS Prime B35 Plus motherboard with the same issues.

Just had a conversation with my Zoom rep. It appears there is a known issue with certain revisions of Realtek hardware in HP/Dell and Microsoft systems. The Zoom software has trouble communicating with the hardware in order to properly handle background noise suppression. The result is the Zoom software mutes the mic or locks the microphone hardware requiring a reboot.

Zoom is working to write code to be able to properly suppress background noise and adjust from low/medium/high or even disable to help with these issues. It's supposedly scheduled for inclusion in Version 5.4 of the Zoom software. Unfortunately, there is no ETA for release.

Hi, any update from your Zoom rep? I am having the same issue with a brand new HP laptop. Microphone and speakers work perfectly for Microsoft Teams (fortunately since his school uses Teams) but when he has a Zoom call nobody can hear him on the microphone. He can hear them fine. We have tried all 3 installed microphones (didn't realize there were 3). Zoom participants cannot hear him at all on one of the microphones and he fades in and out on the other two (more out than in). Thanks!
