zoom and windows 10 - microphone and speaker drop off

I have had this happen twice during a meeting, but having consistent Mic and Audio issues while in Zoom or Teams.  Any help is much appreciated. I bought a brand new HP Envy.

Thanks PigrimA.    I applied the fix late this morning.  I just started testing to confirm that all is better now.  Formerly a test technician, I should know from experience that firmware sometimes conflicts with drivers/ settings in an application and/ or  OS,  I am glad that it seems an 'easy' fix!

I believe I tried that since while I was still trying to solve the problem on my desktop I was trying everything suggested. Finally gave up and tried using my wife's laptop using the inbuilt camera and audio. Worked just fine. I'll be using that for Zoom meetups that we both want to participate in. I'll use the desktop and headphones if it's just me. Perhaps someday RealTek and MS will get together and publish a fix.

Have there been any reports from users on Windows platforms that do not use RealTek hardware?

I use an external Focusrite Scarlett 18i8. I have the problem of sound dropping out in Zoom to me (not outgoing to anyone else). I have been in conversation with the Focusrite techs and we've gone one by one through dozens of suggestions. So far, none have solved the issue since the beginning of the semester.

My last class of the semester begins in 8 minutes. Maybe next term.

Did you try LWinDC's fix that I detailed in my 10/26/20 post?  One of my coworkers received a new Dell laptop recently and experienced the same Zoom microphone muting issue.  I applied that fix and it worked for her and continues to work for me.  It also fixed the same issue for me in GoToMeeting.  Good luck!
