I am trying to use zoom on my Windows 10 HP laptop, but the microphone and speaker drop off after just a short time.  My speaker is a "Realtek".  What settings should I be using?  I have both the speaker and microphone set to work with the app.

    I just fixed it!!!!

After 3 weeks of not being able to hear my students on my laptop ZOOM session (had to join with a different Zoom account on my phone for audio, while using my laptop for video/screen sharing -- such a pain), I finally got my laptop speakers working in Zoom!

    Here's how:

While the Zoom meeting is open, go to Settings, open Sound settings---in that menu open Advanced Sound Options: "App Volume and Device Preferences".  If you do this when NOT in a meeting, you will get volume adjustment bars for your speakers (master sound) and your computer sounds (systems sounds). BUT, if you open this while in a ZOOM meeting you also get volume adjustment bars for ZOOM meetings. Mine were muted. All I had to do was turn them back on and all of a sudden I could hear everyone again.

    Hope this works for you.

I am also experiencing sound issues on a Dell XPS 13 running Windows 10. Never had a problem with Zoom until September 30th and all of a sudden my students can hear me and each other, but I cannot hear anyone. I've tried reinstalling sound drivers, reinstalling Zoom, trying it with Bluetooth off (just in case some other device I have is impacting the sound drivers) -- nothing seems to work. I'm hoping for a solution before my next class on Wednesday. Will keep investigating and post if anything works.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a recording app I was using called Loom. As soon as the free version ran out and it went to the free version I had no audio on Zoom even using a headset. Happened on my husbands laptop too after I installed Loom on there. I had to dial into my Zoom meetings by phone!

As soon as I uninstalled the app we had audio on both laptops.

So it could be a recording or similar app interfering with your audio.

I got this working, for a short while.  It worked after I was sure my system was fully up-to-date with drivers and software.  Then in Zoom, for one day, the wireless earphones with mic worked.  Since then it is stopped, no success.  I am adding this reply to document my experience.  By the way, whilst it worked, in Zoom "same as system" was selected for both choices.  I continue to try and get it going.  I've no idea if the problem is on the side of Zoom or the laptop.  Just the same.  It is a problem.  continued.

Hi there ced2, I will be your Independent Advisor for today, I hope we can both resolve your problem.

If the Audio drops when in use, I suggest to have the Audio drivers completely uninstalled and reboot the PC.

Here is how to do it.

Here the steps to completely remove a Device off your computer.

Step 1. Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.

    Step 2. Select Device Manager.

Step 3. Expand the entry Sound and Audio devices. Right-click the driver and select Uninstall device.

Step 4. You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.

    Step 5. Reboot the computer.

Please make sure to uninstall all that is listed under Audio devices and then restart your Laptop.
