zoom and windows 10 - microphone and speaker drop off

I am trying to use zoom on my Windows 10 HP laptop, but the microphone and speaker drop off after just a short time.  My speaker is a "Realtek".  What settings should I be using?  I have both the speaker and microphone set to work with the app.

    You are my hero!  I've been dealing with this issue for months now.  My microphone worked in every application but Zoom.  I couldn't complete a sentence without it fading out my voice to those listening.  I have a new Dell Latitude 5300 laptop.  I'll repeat your instructions for those who may want to try this fix:

    • Open Sound Settings>Input>Device Properties>Additional Device Properties>Advanced tab
      • Uncheck “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”
      • Uncheck “Enable audio enhancements”
      • Apply

    I have this problem with the Surface Pro 7. I can connect to a Zoom meeting with mic and speakers working great, then suddenly the mic just stops picking up through the meeting. If you do a test, the application picks up sound. Leaving and reentering Zoom does not fix the problem. Only rebooting.

    I have the same problem.  It happened this month so I download the old version of zoom.  So far so good

    We have the same issues.  Brand new Dell XPS 13 1390, purchased for the school year and all of the Zooms required.  Microphone works just fine except in Zoom and Google Meets.  I have spent about 10 hours on this issue, including contacting Dell and reinstalling the drivers, checking all settings etc.  Dell now wants to charge me $99 for software consultation.  This is extremely frustrating.
