While you cannot return to S mode once you've switched out, many of S mode's protections can be enabled through the Windows Security app and settings. Please try enabling those protections whether your PC is currently in S mode or not.

Hi there Suzanne - Microsoft Edge has some helpful settings to prevent this. In Edge, go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Pop-ups and redirects. Make sure that the setting is set to "Blocked". This should help prevent or reduce the number of unwanted pop-ups you experience.

Many of S mode's protections can be enabled even after you've switched out of S mode. Please see the Windows Security app to enable all the features available to you there to keep your PC protected. Let me know if you have a question about enabling a particular security setting.
I've read numerous posts here that say that once you have switched out of S mode, you can never go back and that it's permanant. Well, you are completely wrong! Months ago I switched out of S mode and today, after an update of my BIOS on my HP laptop, it went back into S mode! So, it is NOT permanent at all! I sincerely wish it was because it's going to be VERY annoying if after every time I update the BIOS, it goes back into S mode.
