please I want to know how to switch back to s mode or know if with this mode my pc is exposed, venerable.

CAN YOU PLS PUT ME BACK IN S PLS

Hi there,

While you cannot return to S mode once you've switched out, many of S mode's protections can be enabled through the Windows Security app and settings. Please try enabling those protections whether your PC is currently in S mode or not.

    Hey, I don't want to switch out of S mode but I want to download these two games onto my computer from my childhood but my computer will not let me because I am in S mode. Will anything actually happen to my computer if I switch out of S mode? I mainly use this computer for school work. I don't think switching out of S mode would hurt but I want to see if there is an alternative way first. Is there a way I can turn off the setting that controls what apps I can and cannot download?

    I understand this dilemma.  S mode has a collection of protections built in that help keep your computer, its data, and your (PC) identity safe.  When a PC is switched out of S mode, those protections are turned off.  While the security profile of  your device is lowered without S mode enabled, switching out doesn't immediately "hurt" your PC.

    Above, I suggested to another community member that some of S mode's protections can be enabled even after switching out.  Some of these include the following:

    • Windows Hello - Protect your identity and make it easier to sign in with Windows Hello
    • Memory Integrity - Prevent kernel-mode attacks by enabling Memory Integrity, also known as HVCI
    • App & Browser Control - Protect against potentially unwanted apps from the internet

    Check out the Windows Security for the full suite of security features that can be enabled on your PC.

    Okay, if I were to switch out of S mode (which I know cannot be undone) and I enable the other security stuff will this mess up my apps like Microsoft word or Microsoft PowerPoint? I use them for college.

    You can switch out of S mode (simply search for "Switch" in the Store to find the setting and link to the Store to switch). 

    To answer your question, you can run trusted apps like Edge, Word, and Powerpoint (as well as other trusted apps like Spotify, Minecraft, iTunes, and many, many others).  These apps work whether or not your PC is in S mode because they are trusted and verified apps.  S mode only prevents the installation of unverified apps, for security.
