While you cannot return to S mode once you've switched out, many of S mode's protections can be enabled through the Windows Security app and settings. Please try enabling those protections whether your PC is currently in S mode or not.

There is no way to switch back to S mode, but rest assured that you can enable many of its security protections to keep your PC safe. First, go to Windows Security > App & browser control, and enable the available settings there, including Reputation-based protection which protects your PC from unrecognized apps online. You can also check to ensure you have security features like Memory integrity enabled: Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation > Core isolation details > Memory integrity (On).

Hi there, Fiona. S mode cannot be reenabled on a PC that has switched out. Switching out of S mode is permanent.
I mentioned an alternative setting above that enables some of the protections offered by S mode: go to Windows Security > App & browser control, and enable the available settings there, including Reputation-based protection which protects your PC from unrecognized apps online.
