Folder names alphabetized in groups.

(3) I haven't used Spybot since Win 98. Even back then there were cautions against using CCleaner. But I guess there is a way to use it safely. Google it.

I'm glad to hear that you & she are well. I still wake up each day at least twice & had only a drippy nose so far today. But that predates corona by enough to fill lake Erie.

Whether you are reading or writing an email in Mail or in Outlook.com, point at the various icons until its pop-up says "print". The icon likely looks like a printer. If none do, then click the More icon (3 dots) to see what is hidden...

Alright, good going finding the answer on your own regarding the My Documents folder. But be careful with those special user folders (My Documents, Downloads, etc.). It's best not to move the folder, which might have an unexpected consequence. Instead make a new folder, then just copy all the files to it.

(a) Make a new folder on the USB drive.

(b) Open File Explorer to My Documents.

(c) Click Select All in the ribbon on top, then the Copybutton.

(d) Go to the new folder on the USB drive, & click Paste.

Then plug the USB drive into the new computer, & paste them that way into its My Documents.

I had the sniffles & watery eyes today but they seem to have gone. Probably hay fever. Fauci said corona is not a neck-up virus. It's a deep cough, fever & shortness of breath. I hope you & Marilyn are also well.

Since you started this thread, scroll up to your very first post that started it. Edit that one, & you will have an opportunity to change its title/subject. That's how I recall it, but my own original threads here are locked now, so I can't verify it still is possible. It won't change the title on stuff already in Mail, but the new ones with the new title will group with the old one(s) - IIRC.

(2) "I want the two accounts to have the same settings."

Separate Microsoft accounts have separate settings. You have to log into each & set them separately.

(a) Usually, notifications from Mail are friendly. But "START, Settings, System, Notifications & Actions" has a switch you can flip...

That should prevent notifications from every thread you are subscribed to, as well as from any email anyone sends to you.

(b) If you want to turn off notifications from just one particular thread (no matter who started it), scroll up to the original post that started it (at the top of any page), & unsubscribe to it. Then Mail won't notify because nothing will come. Click the Subscribe button, then the Unsubscribe option. The button will still read the same (subscribe), but if you click it again, you will see the option has changed to Subscribe as well.

(4) "I have a Downloads folder in both my W7 and W10 computers."

(a) Are the computers linked in any way or totally separate -- for instance, are you sharing folders between them &/or using (logging into) the same OneDrive? And is the Downloads folder on OneDrive? Normally, I'd want only the downloads I use (or may someday use) to exist on my computer. But if deleting it from one computer also deleted it from the other computer, I'd have to think twice. If the computers are totally separate, I think a USB drive would be easiest to copy files from one to the other.

(b) What do you keep in your Downloads folder(s)? If you downloaded something into it & never used it, feel free to delete it. If it was a program or driver package that you installed, it has no further use - except to reinstall the package in case you've inadvertently uninstalled it. I keep packages around for that reason, but you could always download it again, if necessary.

(5) "In WLM on my old computer"

I never had WLM, so I can't quite understand the question. And what blocks of text are you referring to?

I'm also hard at work on my own taxes. Hopefully, they will put us into the same jail cell to pick up on Marilyn's emails afterward. I'll wait for you there, anyhow. And I wonder whether Greg is already there waiting for us.

I presume you mean in your Mail app (you signed in to Windows) & not just in her Mail app (she signed in to her user account & opened Mail). I want to know how you got her into yours, etc., as I asked earlier. Also, does it still sync, for example, if she logs in to her account & deletes an email - does it disappear in your Mail too?

I must admit, I'm confused what happens, if you should (in your Mail) move something she deleted (in her Mail) back to the Inbox (your copy of her Inbox). Does it re-sync & get deleted again?

(3) " In WLM I could see what was in an incoming email message without actually opening it"

(a) I jumped from Win 98 (Outlook Express) to Win 8.1>Win 10 (Mail). But what you describe in WLM sounds like Outlook Express. There is nothing like that in Mail that I see. We must trust Windows Defender to keep us safe. There is an Email Security setting but it says...

I only have the one Microsoft Account attached to Mail.

(b) If you think you can recognize a bad guy by its ID, you may click the "selection mode" toggle above the message IDs. Then you may select & delete them without ever opening them. Remember to toggle it back afterward.

(c) You can make rules in Outlook (on the WEB) that will be respected by Mail. But you'll have to know how to recognize the bad guys.

(d) We do have "View message source" in Outlook (on the WEB). Sadly, it looks like we must open the email before we can use it, though, so far as I can discover. Click the email in the top pane, then in the bottom pane above the opened email click the More (...) icon to see it...

To get it outside the More icon (as I have now done), put a checkmark into "View message source", at "Outlook, Settings (gear), View all outlook settings, Customize actions". That will add the icon I circled above...

(4) "choice of closing all tabs or only the current tab"

That's up to the app. Right, Edge does that...

But IE11 (type into Search) does what you want...

In either case, you can just go for the little X's in the tabs instead...

Or use Ctrl+W.

That's how long it takes me to do things these days, especially in tax season & after a 3 hour nap.

I see no setting in Mail or in Outlook (on the WEB) that will control text size within a message that has been received. But each of them has settings for text size & color in messages you write.

The size of displayed text across the board (the whole computer) can be controlled at "START, Settings, System, Display", under Scale & Layout...

You may safely click that down-arrow & set it to 125%. However, I cannot recommend the "Advanced Scaling Settings" button going by the dire warning one sees after clicking it.

Since you already signed in to your Microsoft account, you get automatically signed in to Outlook (on the WEB) when you go there. I think you need to sync her account. Then it should also get signed in automatically & will appear (by default) as a folder in Outlook's left pane. Apparently, you also get a choice to mix her emails in with yours...

(a) Ask Cortana for Outlook.

     Outlook (on the WEB) will open in Edge.

(b) Click Outlook's Settings (gear) icon at top, right.

     A dropdown settings window opens.

(c) Click "View all Outlook settings" at bottom of the dropdown window.

     A larger settings window opens.

(d) Click "Sync email" in the middle pane of the larger window.

(e) Click "Other email accounts" that now appears in the right pane.

(f) Add your wife's email account to yours using the "Connect your account" requestor that appears.

I think that might also cause her account to appear in Mail. If not, then...

(a) Open Mail & click its Settings (gear) icon at bottom.

(b) Clixk "Manage accounts" in the settings at top, right.

(c) Click "Add account".

     I'm unsure what "Link inboxes" would do. Would that mix

     her emails with yours instead of putting them into a separate folder?

(d) Click "Outlook.com".

(e) Type her email address into the requestor that opens.

     I hope it will be found. I do not believe "Create one" applies.

Click the "T alk to Cortana" icon on the Taskbar, & say "Outlook" or "Hotmail". Or type one of those into the Search bar. That goes to Outlook.com which is Outlook (on the WEB). If you've already signed in to your Microsoft account during boot, you automatically are signed in there.

Or get there this way...

(a) "START, Settings, Accounts", then click your Microsoft account in the right pane.

     Its page will open in Edge.

(b) Click "More Actions" under your name, then click "View Inbox".

     I posted a picture of that earlier.

Many of the settings you do at Outlook.com will be picked up by the Mail app, others apparently won't. The Settings (gear) icon is at top, right. The Mail app is getting its stuff from there. But you can do more things there than in the Mail app.

Definitely also click the Help (?) icon which is just to the right of the gear.

Are you referring to the "Open message in a new window" button in my last post? It looks like it does what you say - but really it does not. It just opens a second window showing the same message. If you click back into Mail, you will see the message is still there as well & won't need to be retrieved back. If you point at the Mail icon on the Taskbar, you will see two windows are open.

(3) "You explain that in order to CUT when writing an email message, I must perform a two-step keyboard operation instead of using the same right-key press used for the other two common writing operations."

Are you in the Mail app & did you click "New Mail"? I can then select text, right-click it & get an option to Cut...

I never had WLM. There are plenty of icons both on top & at bottom of the "new mail" box. But none of them are for cut, copy or paste. You've got to right-click selected text for that. Actually - it's Outlook (on the WEB) that has a slew of icons both at top & at bottom. Mail has fewer & only on top.

No comment - I plead the 5th. But lots of what I say comes of doing it for the first time myself. It was in this thread I learned I could speak "Outlook" to Cortana & get directly to Outlook.com.

I think you know the reading pane is set at bottom by default in Outlook (on the WEB), which has a setting that controls its location. Apparently, Mail doesn't have & won't honor that setting in Outlook (though it honors other stuff that is done in Outlook). But what you can do in Mail is one of these...

(a) Drag the divider line between the panes left until more of the message shows. Move the mouse slowly between the panes until the divider line shows up. The pointer will turn into a double-arrow. There's a line on either side of the middle pane...

(b) Or click the "Open message in a new window" icon at its top, right, which can then be resized...

(2) "What do you mean by 'read it at the site'?"

I mean exactly what you did to get here: Click "Post a reply". Then all the <image> placeholders will render.

(3) "Can I delete the colored dots with initials to the left of each email message listed in the INBOX?"

You mean like that "MC" above? No, it can't be deleted (that I know of). It stands for the sender, "Microsoft Community".

Select the text, & click Ctrl+X to cut. Ctrl+C is copy, & Ctrl+V is paste. But you can't cut from a message sent to you, only from one you are composing.

I'm glad you were able to find an answer to that question on your own before I could get to it. I said from the start you were going to know more than me before long. Keep looking around in the Settings & the articles, & soon I'll be asking you the questions.

If it is the "<image>" indicator within a notice of email that this community sends to you, I can find no Setting in Mail or in Outlook (on the WEB) that will make the picture render within the email notice. You must click to go read it at the site. It used to be different, but the community changed it to this awhile back. It appears to be up to them. 😒.

If it's something else, try right-clicking it for an option to render it. Maybe show us a picture of it.

(2) "What does "focused" mean when applied to emails?"

"Focused" & "Other" are tabs that allow you to separate incoming emails by sender. You can turn it on or off in the Settings of Mail or Outlook. In Mail, it is "Mail Settings, Focused inbox". Choose the account, then toggle the setting...

Right-click a message, & there will be a choice to "Move to..." & "Always move to...". The 1st applies to the single message. The 2nd applies to it & all future emails from the same sender.

If we wanted to check something, we could visit Hotmail.com.  Whatever was there was also on our Windows Live Mail screen.

We also had a Contacts page that was immediately accessible to us that listed all the people and companies that we kept in touch with.  I have no idea how I can get this on my Windows 10 computer.

Charles, I am glad to hear that it resolved the file grouping issue you posted about. I'm not sure why you said it didn't help (twice) in the rating.

As to the missing files, it could not have anything to do with the sort order of course, but what I do when a file is missing is do a search for it's title or a key word in title, if its found right click to Show File Location. If not then you are most wise to have a backup.

What email system are you using? I support Windows 10 Mail app which is an easier way to access your mail from all your various accounts in one huge inbox that lets you merge all of your Office and Web Mail account, with an even larger ad-free reading pane. Open an affected folder, from View tab choose Sort by: Name and Group by: (none). You can change that to any other sort method you want, just make sure if you don't want a separate grouping within the Sort list, to set Group By to None.
