I received an email stating I am being charged $199.00 for windows defender can this be true or is it a scam?

100% scam.
Windows defender comes free with Windows 10.
If you hover your mouse over any links you can then check them to see where they truly link too; I bet it isn’t Microsoft.
Have you received any strange phone calls purporting to be Microsoft/Windows techs stating you have a problem with Windows?
Just in case I would check with your bank or creating card provider to ensure this charge hasn’t been applied.

That's definitely a phishing email, a scam.
Mark it as spam and delete it.

Sorry you have this situation. As this is a scam and advanced to a payment stage, my advice is to immediately contact PayPal and CharlesSchwab to stop payment. Good luck.
I have been on the phone over an hour trying to get my funds back. I am invoiced (2 - 3 days) for $499.99 for DEFENDER.
They have been into my PayPal account and into my CharlesSchwab account.
I am nervous they have all my details.
I received several calls from the following number 833-320-9885 out of Washington DC. I could hear arguing in background noise as it sounded like a call center. The person and voices in background had a chinese or asian tone in their voices. They wanted to send me an opt out form to my e mail to fill out if I did not want them to charge me $299 on my account. I asked what account and they said microsoft account. This is a scam and I turned number into the FCC complaint department. They are phishing for information and may not have anything. I am assuming the scam is chinese based by china itself. Hell, They gave us Covid and now they are trying to steal our money along with our lives.
