I have also experienced the issue since early 2020. Same symptoms as mentioned in earlier posts. I installed a separate audio card and stopped using the built-in Realtek audio drivers that came with the motherboard, although they insist on reinstalling themselves, so it's a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. No luck with that. If I reboot, it's fine for a couple of hours, then the audio lapses and video freezes start to sneak in again. It's almost like a buffer is slowly filling over time. I have learned that before I do any videoconferencing (I'm a university professor and I teach remotely these days), I reboot my PC to get through the class sessions without any issues. I'm a little disheartened to hear that hardware rebuilds won't solve this problem, as that was my next step. But at least I saved a significant amount of money by not doing so.
System Freeze and Audio Problem
I have just purchased a new computer but as i installed programs, a problem was introduced. I think I had seen the same problem on my previous computer, but that is a long story!
The effect is that the computer freezes for about 5 seconds and then continues. Associated with that is a message from the Realtek Audio informing me I have just plugged a device into the audio input. It does not require there to be any audio playing at the time this happens, though if there is audio, then that either goes silent or issues what can best be described as a buzz until the system resumes. The audio can also go into a state which i can only describe as like a stutter, where maybe it freezes for a few milliseconds at a time over a period of about 5 seconds. Sometimes this produces the Realtek message, though not always.
It seems that sometimes this can be triggered by activity, e.g calling a new web page in the browser. Often on returning to the machine after a period away, where the screen has blanked, waking the system up causes the Realtek message, but no obvious freezing of operation.
But the problem can also occur when the machine is not being used. I can be in the next room eating lunch and hear the audio freeze for the period associated with the problem.
With the new system, I started by sequentially installing the programs I required. This was a processed performed over several days as I was also working on the machine as well. Among the programs I had always installed was OpenOffice, I had been using this since it was first available, though I think generally LibreOffice now does better. But as I installed OpenOffice after several days without a problem, I heard the quality of the sound change and the problem started. On average, the problem manifests itself about once an hour, so i think the initial trouble free period up to the installation of OpenOffice identifies the culprit, but uninstalling it did not help. Windows repair tool claims to identify a problem and to have repaired it, requiring a reboot, but the problem still returns, so something somewhere is damaged. Google does nothing but confuse attempts to find the Realtek drivers which could be reinstalled.
I don't know where to go. I can't believe I am the only person suffering from this problem, yet I cannot find reference to such a problem on Google. So this is my last ditch effort to solve the problem before resorting to a clean install.

2021-01-07T22:46:53+00:00 For me this problem started sometime around March of 2019. At first it seemed to do this only once in a while but them it progressed to about every 10 to 15 minutes. I also tried taking out my PCIE video and sound cards to try to see if it was a hardware problem with them. This also did not work. I then learned that others were also having this problem but with different motherboards, memory and processors. I do think all the processors are Intel made. I tried the Windows reset tools to no avail. I tried reinstalling Windows but the problem came back. I tried another SSD drive and loaded Windows again. The problem came back. I reformatted my original SSD and loaded Windows 10 a fourth time. This time I was extra careful about loading the motherboard drivers without all the extra tools and such that come with the main drivers. Then I loaded Windows 10 again but this time I waited several days installing the Windows updates until all were done. Then I installed all the other drivers such as Intel, video and sound card. after all was done and still with a stable system I installed the programs I use. It's been about 3 months now running what seems to be a stable system without the problem. It is my belief that somehow an Intel driver has been corrupted by a Windows update. The problem we have is that this problem is very random and even harder to duplicate. In the fall of 2018 I built 2 identical computers. Only 1 had this problem while the other has been stable the entire time. Some people claim that one of those error and driver fixit programs worked for them but the ones I tried did not work. As this happens with different brands of motherboards and configurations it seems unlikely to be either a hardware or a certain brand of hardware causing this. What they do all have in common is Intel hardware and drivers and windows 10. I am really unsure about how to fix a working system without reinstalling everything from scratch. My computer worked for over 6 months without a single problem before this started out of the blue. I really would like a better answer to give but after 6 months of trying fixes only a clean install got me back running stable again. If anyone from Microsoft is watching I would love a better answer to this.

2020-12-24T02:22:06+00:00 Yeah i´ve tried different earphones and it's the same result, for the secind question, yeah it goes away, if it get's too unbearable or lasts too long i restart the laptop, and answering your final question, yes it kinda does that when i join discord calls, the only thing i know its that its triggered by something audio related.

2020-12-24T02:12:55+00:00 so ive been uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, windows, components until I had a lead on the audio drivers potentially being the issue, turns out (for me atleast) my hyperX USB headset with a built in sound card was causing the issue. Using a 3.5mm jack instead of the built in sound card has stopped the stutter completely if it helps anyone. So relieved after spending so much on an unplayable PC!
