My OS build is the same as yours. I went one step further today and downloaded the .net framework repair tool and ran it. Then I un-paused updates and and it tried to install KB4551762 (for the 7th time). Same result, fail - 0x800f081 Repaused updates til May 8 EDIT: I am running version 3.5.30729.4926 of .net Hi Bob. I've given up with kb4551762, I tried windows update in safe mode but gave up. Ran the fix tool for windows update and trying kb4541335 again as this was the cumulative update that went straight into my desktop upstairs.

My laptop is quite old but been okay with windows 10 updates apart from this one and I think it was one about same time last year. On that occasion I was connected to a Microsoft engineer who eventually my bios was the issue as it couldn't support windows 10 even though it had been for a few years. It was their issue as the cumulative update was released and it's been pretty okay till now.

No apologies necessary, I was just trying to let you know that I do know a little about computers :) I honestly have very little in the way of special software or hardware. I gave that stuff up when I retired! I have somewhat of a home brew Home Automation system, run by a Raspberry Pi, but it's nothing more than a web page that I can interact with. I/we appreciate your input, as I think any transfer of ideas is not a bad thing.... FWIW, I built my current machine in early February, and it ran (and continues to run flawlessly). It updated regularly until sometime in mid March. Since then I can get Defender updates and Office updates, but Cumulative updates always end the same. I really don't want to re-install Windows, so I'll continue pausing updates until someone offers a fix (that works for ~100% of EVERYONE's issues). If someone wants to try to hack into my network due to not having the latest update, I hope you are good at breaking 26 character, 64 bit encrypted passwords....

Sorry, Casandra. Not Some have problems with this Update. Last count was 19,313. Now it is 20,555. So there definitely is a problem with this one. And everyone has a different System. Mine is a Dell 1545 Lap Top which has not had problems in the past and I don't want problems now. Doing the Winver, it has Version 1903 18362.720 as of 2019.
