I have so far had the following issues, and it seems each day brings a new issue... I have no idea why it seems to want to wait a day or so for a new issue to crop up!!! As soon as I installed the update on the 10th, I had the "sound issues" -- no sound out of my soundbar, though microphone worked, monitor sound would work if I switched it. Resolution: I was able to resolve this by determining a lot of old sound devices (portable speakers) had re-appeared even though they were no longer in use. By deleting the devices, and rebooting, I was able to get the desired selected device to work. Whatever conflict was there, stopped and sound has been working. Yay? This had not been a problem prior to update. 2-3 days ago, after a subsequent update (seemingly) I got the 'Windows Defender' issue where I now get a notification of a nonexistent exclusion (skipped an item due to exclusion or network setting) every time I do an on demand scan. At startup (during a windows update of Defender) I got a notification that Defender stopped working, and I needed to restart it. My 'forced update' of antivirus definitions that I do a little after restart probably conflicted with the update that was running, and something shut down -- this happens on occasion if I try to update antivirus definitions while update is doing it at the same time. I restarted Defender, and ran a scan and got the exclusion error. No amount of troubleshooting has resolved this; I found enough posts in the Defender subsection to decide this is a bug of Microsoft's. I DO have a drive mounted at G, always have, and I have an SSD drive at C and another drive at D. Various folders are remapped to D. I imagine there is some dumb bug related. As I do on demand scans on startup and shutdown, this is a nuisance. As of yesterday I was greeted with a bluescreen upon startup, with the 'white update wheel.' I had to control-alt-delete, go to startup and restart. This allowed me to login. Today, behavior has changed and now I can get a startup picture but NO LOGIN. No amount of key mashing or mouse clicking allows this. I ran troubleshooting (sfc, dism, etc ad nauseum). No problems. Virus scans, wasted hours. Again. And guess what fixed it after doing more troubleshoot?! Pausing windows update for 7 days. If only I had found THIS very thread sooner, where some kind soul posted that SUPPORT had told them to disable the update service. I had noticed in task manager that update was churning away unnecessarily greedily on resources to produce no updates once I had logged in but it didn't register as suspicious (silly me) until I had checked elsewhere for corruption. So good going on this update. Borked sound, borked defender, and borked updates. What's next?
