Cumulative Updates - March 10th 2020

I don't want to Update anything.  When an Update is sent to me, I Restart and let it Update.  This one is sitting there saying in my Update Folder saying,  "When you are ready, Click "Update" for the Feature Windows 10 Update 1909".  If there are issues as you are saying, then Why should I click to download and install it, and why give me a choice like that.  Normally the only notice you get for Updates, is on the Task Bar for you to select a time to Install (they have already been automatically downloaded) or when you choose sleep or shut down when you close out for the day.  Looks like I may let it sit there.  Thanks.

This update has caused the biggest issue for me, one could ever think of as it has wiped almost 35 GB of data which I had on DESKTOP.

TLDR : I needed TWO surfaces to help me out here - one to "sacrifice". I got to Smh and LOL at the same time at the state of things now..

Let me tell you some facts :

-I purchased a Surface Pro 3 when it released which started having expanding-battery issues after 2-3 years - MS refused to help as it was out of warranty - this was a device I'd paid well over £1000 for for study and work purposes and one that I expected to last many many years.  It came with Windows 7 so I had control of whether to update or not.

-fast forward to 2019.  I decided to give the surface another chance and got a Surface Go.  It comes with Windows 10.  I needed to avoid my past mistake so I bought TWO surface Go's.  Yesterday, one of them updated and I now get the 0xc0000098 error cannot repair or reset the machine to get past this.    [ As a result I have delayed the update on the second surface GO .....phew - that was close!!! ]

• I have been an MS fan since forever but something changed this past decade.  Citing "security" we are getting updates that are costing users their productivity, finances and any memories they may have saved on their devices such as photos.

I understand that updates are required but there needs to be more power to users to disable these completely - they purchased the device so they should have the choice to enable/disable these.

Anyhow, will there be a fix for my problem? I'd hope so.  [I'll probably have to end up reinstalling windows - not looking forward to it]

Will there be any refund for a device that's broken and out of warranty? Probably not.

I am very very disappointed in what is happening at the moment and that a update that I did not ask for has rendered my expensive device useless.

Edit : recovered my Surface Go at the expense of my files and about a day's worth of my time out of my weekend.

I have not installed the new Feature Update Windows 10 Version 1909 yet, because I am not computer knowledgeable and wish to wait until I don't read about all these issues people are having with it not completing the update.  How long will it stay in my Update settings?  What do I do if I do have this issue where it won't complete.  I am nearly 80 years old and my computer is my livelihood.  Meaning I would need help getting it installed and not by someone giving me instructions on how to do it by writing it here.  Updates I get every month install just fine, but when I signed up to Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 I did not do it myself and let it sit for months until I finally called Microsoft with another individual Update that would not install and got the help of Microsoft on line to get the Upgrade from 7 to 10 by the Tech who I spoke with.  That is how illiterate I am when it comes to computers.  A little advise would be nice here.
