Cumulative Updates - March 10th 2020

Dear Microsoft Team,

I'm so happy that you have created and prioritized this update. Your fabulous intelligent update system has made its own decision to install it. And it has not asked a single question. This update showed me how miserable my activities and business were. I had a whole hour for meditation in front of this blue screen. Than you once again for breaking all my plans today. They are nonsense comparing to super important update.

You will need to get a Windows 10 installation disk to fix this, boot from the DVD and click on Command Prompt.

Copy the entire C drive to a backup drive using the xcopy command. Quoting an article on the subject: "Type xcopy c:\ f:\ /s /e /h /i /c /y and press Enter to copy all the files and subdirectories (including any empty subdirectories, any system or hidden files) from drive C to drive F.

Than, reboot again from DVD, and select Repair, and hope and pray that the Repair option does the right thing.

If it doesn't work, reboot using the DVD yet again, and re-install Windows 10. The backup drive has all of your personal data.

What has changed is that Microsoft, in order to "save money", has utilized Microsoft Insider volunteers to do most or all of the Q/A for Windows and Updates, and has fired or retired their entire Q/A staff, which used to occupy a vast space with dozens of professional software Q/A engineers. That's the long and the short of it. The software is now junk. For my relatively minor problem - for which I was able to find a workaround - I have checked and rechecked to make sure that I don't have any corruption or virus. It's all exactly as Microsoft thinks it should be: broken.

I'm a retired software engineer, and I have never seen this kind of irresponsibility in software except for fly-by-night vendors. Microsoft is now in that category.

Thank You for your response.  

I am so sorry about your troubles, but it has definitely convinced me to just let this Feature Update sit there.  When I had Windows 7 you had a choice, yes, and I used to wait a whole year to upgrade to the new version of Internet Explorer.  Sometimes longer, just waiting for Microsoft to fix all the bugs.  So at least now  I do have that choice with this Feature 1909 Update.  I found it sitting there when I checked after my regular monthly Updates were Automatically installed. 

One was the New Edge.  And I have to say, WOW, finally an Edge that works.  I complained so many times about Edge not loading certain things, like my Facebook games.  This new Edge is great.

I think one of the biggest mistakes with Microsoft is the One Drive.

I lost ALL my pictures.  Thankfully I have them all on DVD and on a Flash Drive.  After losing them all with this One Drive, I first clicked to "Always keep on this device", but found some were still disappearing, so then I stopped the Update from One Drive to touch any photos.  And when I get new photos I save them on my Flash Drive as soon as they come into my mail, so they don't even go into my computer to get lost.  If I could totally get rid of One Drive without getting pop ups to sign in, I would do that, so I have turned off what One Drive can do.

I have never had anything but Microsoft, and I will faithfully stay with Microsoft and also recommend Microsoft.  Sometimes what you think is greener on the other side is not so green.

So I will let this Feature sit there and keep checking to judge how people are dealing with it.  Give Microsoft the time to clean the bugs out of it.
