Cumulative Updates - March 10th 2020

Not quite blind. I and others have been trying for several days to get posters to check into any Third Party Programs they may be using that might be causing conflicts with updates, I'm glad to see someone finally started doing it. Yes Antivirus Software (I specifically mentioned Norton yesterday because the person I was talking with in this thread was using it) is a Third Party Software IF you're paying Norton or McAfee to provide you with the same coverage Windows Security already does https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4013263 which, together with a decent pop up blocker---I use the free Adblocker Ultimate from the Microsoft Store---keeps the bad stuff away very neatly at no additional cost to me.

Which is important when you're almost 70 and on a fixed income.

Wouldn't quite say Windows provides the same service as 3rd party anti virus and security services. From past experience I got hacked and a trojan downloaded whilst using MS services only shortly after not renewing a norton subscription. MS could not do anything about this, however reinstalling norton resolved the issue immediately. Further to this my norton 360 at £28 per year also provides free vpn and protection for up to 10 devices including my Samsung tablet, wifes tablet and 2 mobile phones. As I previously reported my desktop is configured with the same software as my laptop, and it is only the latter the issue is with when it comes to the March Cumulative update. Personally I trust Norton more than MS who fail at times like this to support their customers. My opinion based on past history.

I was able to completely download and install the Cumulative first, then Restart.  Go back to Updates and check for new updates.  The 1909 came up.  I downloaded and installed it successfully within 10 minutes.  It restarted during the process twice.  I have always used Windows Defender & Malware and Windows Firewall.  I also had already installed last year, the 1903 Update.  I can't say for sure, but it appears people who use different Anti Virus products are having issues with this new Update.  Plus you probably need that 1903 installed first.  It says FROM 1903 to 1909. You can call Microsoft or go to Microsoft Support on line, not this Community, because this is not actually Microsoft support.  It is for Consumers to Discuss issues and seek solutions from Consumers, not Microsoft answers from Microsoft Technicians.  My sister, Disabled her McAfee Antivirus long enough to install that 1909, but she also already had 1903 installed. Hers installed correctly.    So,  As everyone else on here, this is just a suggestion.

Thanks Ruth. As I said previously my desktop updated no problem from 1903 to 1909 latest March update. Problem is my Hp laptop where March Cumulative won't install. Last night I cleared all windows update history, Disabled Norton 360, turned off Internet and tried manual installation to no avail. The last time I had one of their techs connect to my laptop they told me it wasn't windows 10 compliant despite no issues till a similar issue when they sent out a dodgy update. They re-release it and it installed okay and has been fine to this latest fiasco. So I don't really trust these guys telling me to buy a new laptop unnecessarily. I also posted on the Tech support forum but no response as yet.

IF they had done it they would have discovered what their devices had in common what third party software or processor or manufacturer(s) were encountering conflicts.

As I already posted my old refurbished HP Pavilion Desktop from Micro Center had no problems whatsoever.

So the updates work. I can testify to that as a user.

But then...I don't use third party security programs or additional browsers or a ton of third party programs and hardware,  I just use what came with my used PC when I bought it three years ago.

And, yes,  I have all the latest updates
