Realtek Audio device Code 10 cannot start and unable to update

(1) Did that monitor come with the computer or is it replacement/add-on?

(2) Can you disable HDMI in the BIOS?

(3) Did the onboard audio & headphone jack ever work?

(4) If so, can you recall the last thing that happened before they went bad - maybe an update/upgrade?

I would blame the Steinberg CI1 for that. Have you kept it uninstalled after the clean install? But maybe the monitor is doing it too. Can HDMI be shut off & the monitor still work?

Thanks for your time and suggestions, here's the best answers I can come up with:

1. Monitor is an ASUS VP278 and was bought separately.
2. I'll have to check. I've tried disabling it in device manager to no effect.
3. I never tried to use them until recently, I was only using a steinberg ci1 external sound card. (Which has not been installed/plugged in since I reset my pc fully)
4. Yes the steinberg is entirely uninstalled and has not been used at all since.
5. I have looked through those and tried all the fixes that seemed relevant. Many fixes I've encountered fall flat as no matter how many realtek drivers I try to install, not ONE has appeared in my devices or allowed my system to recognize my speakers or headset. And I think the key of the problem may lie in that somewhere. Every tutorial I see, they install whatever version of the audio driver and it SHOWS UP SOMEWHERE right away. Mine runs an installer, prompts me to restart, and upon doing so, absolutely nothing is there or changes.

(1) Does the Realtek High Definition Audio device still show up in Device Manager with a code 10?

That's got to mean BIOS & Windows are seeing it. The fix supposedly is what you've been doing -- install the proper drivers, acc. to...

I think "The request is not supported" (in your earlier picture) is the "FailReasonString". I tried a BING of it but really found nothing (as far as I could bear to read). It would be nice, if it would say something like "the device is not turned on" or even "these are the wrong drivers".

(a) Load UEFI Defaults -- presuming you never made big changes in there. For instance, if you installed Windows in Legacy Mode, you may not be able to boot in UEFI Mode (which must be the default setting).

(b) Switch to Advanced Mode.

(c) Get to Chipset Configuration, & scroll down to these...

Enable/disable onboard HD audio. Set to Auto to enable onboard HD audio and automatically disable it when a sound card is installed.

Front Panel

Enable/disable front panel HD audio.

Enable audio for the onboard digital outputs.

1. If you can set Onboard HD Audio to just "enable" instead of to "auto", I would try that.
2. I guess I would enable the front panel HD audio, especially if the headphone jack is there.
3. I might also enable Onboard HDMI HD Audio, thinking it is different from the one on the monitor.

But maybe go with what the defaults are. Then try to install that driver or the one you got from the computer's site. IOW, these are only my guesses, & I'm glad my own BIOS isn't as versatile.

Edit: Forgot to say, be sure to Save Changes & Exit. Have you been doing that?

Alright so to elaborate on that 1st bit: when I install, nothing shows up in device manager unless I go in and "add legacy hardware" then select realtek from the list and add manually. It then appears, but with the yellow exclamation and says "code 10 cannot start device". It will never appear just by installing, but it is supposed to.

As for the codec, yes I've tried many, many realtek drivers that supposedly work INCLUDING that one as it is available on my boards support site. First one I tried actually.

In the BIOS I haven't ever done much. I told it to use my ram in dual mode or whatever and at their full speed but that should be irrelevant. On board audio is enabled in there, front panel is enabled (and to be clear neither my front panel connectors nor my back analog audio jacks detect anything or work at all). Not sure about the hdmi. And yes I've definitely saved changes. I feel like this is some bizarre conflict of hdmi sound drivers or some nonsense like that. I wish there was a way for the system to just tell me what was wrong but that's not how software works haha.
