Realtek Audio device Code 10 cannot start and unable to update

My headphone and mic jacks on my pc do not work and I have been trying for hours to get my on board sound working. I got the realtek drivers from my board manufacturer and every time I install them I get (Code 10 : Device cannot start.) I have tried updating and I have the newest driver so I am entirely stuck here.

I have tried many different realtek drivers and none work, not even the one supplied by the manufacturer so I would really appreciate if anyone could walk me through how to actually get my sound working.

I have a Z390 Phantom Gaming 4 board and Intel i5 9600K chip.

Neither is what we are looking for: VEN_8086 is Intel and VEN_10DE is nVidia.

Open the computer case, take out the coin battery and erase the cmos. Boot into bios, and load/save the default setting. Hopefully that will jolt the OS to see the onboard audio chip.

Bus 0 and 1 System Devices both have identical drivers as shown above.

    For events:

    Bus 0:

    Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A348&SUBSYS_68931849&REV_10\3&11583659&0&FB was configured.

    Driver Name: hdaudbus.inf

    Class Guid: {4d36e97d-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

    Driver Date: 02/20/2020

    Driver Version: 10.0.18362.693

    Driver Provider: Microsoft

    Driver Section: HDAudio_Device.NT

    Driver Rank: 0xFF2006

    Matching Device Id: PCI\CC_0403

    Outranked Drivers:

    Device Updated: false

    Parent Device: ACPI\PNP0A08\0

    Bus 1:

    Device PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FBA&SUBSYS_8C921462&REV_A1\4&174d0e5f&0&0108 was configured.

    Driver Name: hdaudbus.inf

    Class Guid: {4d36e97d-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

    Driver Date: 02/20/2020

    Driver Version: 10.0.18362.693

    Driver Provider: Microsoft

    Driver Section: HDAudio_Device.NT

    Driver Rank: 0xFF2006

    Matching Device Id: PCI\CC_0403

    Outranked Drivers:

    Device Updated: false

    Parent Device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1901&SUBSYS_19011849&REV_0A\3&11583659&0&08

For the actual events it's just a list for both of deleted, started, configured over and over from uninstalling so many times.

If there's any other information I could provide let me know. Thanks again.

I really expected to see one of them w/o Resources & hoped it would resolve like Jerome said. I'll look around some more tomorrow. I guess your problem is not with those devices, but...

    (1) Are their drivers the same as mine, especially the one that seems to do nothing?

    (2) What about their Events tabs...?...

    Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9C20&SUBSYS_06511028&REV_04\3&11583659&0&D8 was migrated.

My two High Definition Audio Devices in system devices both have a resources tab. The bus 0 one that doesn't seem to do anything is the one with 2 memory ranges, and the bus 1 that seems to be related to my sound device for monitor speakers is the other. I looked at JeromeBeckett's solution but he was able to uninstall them. I cannot, as soon as I scan for hardware changes they all come back no restart required and unfortunately no PCI thing shows up as it did for him. I already did a clean reinstall of windows so this is immensely frustrating haha.

    (1) "unless I go in and 'add legacy hardware'"

That appears to be for legacy, non-plug & play devices. I doubt what you've got would be one of those. Others tried that, it isn't a solution. Has it put something into Device Manager that still is there after a reboot? I would seek to be rid of it.

    (2) OK, I'm sure you tried the right Realtek audio driver. And trying a speakerless monitor probably proves that wasn't causing it, but I think that should be tried again -- if/when the Realtek device finally shows up properly installed under Realtek High Definition Audio (yet still won't produce sound).

I think, now, it won't install because the High Definition Audio Controller under System Devices is not functioning. That's the message I get from the thread JosephT71 found. And here is another...

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/solved-high-definition-audio-controller-cannot/a608c7ed-dfe9-4c9c-8fd2-75dd7e7d0f15?auth=1&page=1

[SOLVED] 'High Definition Audio Controller' cannot start. 'No audio device installed.' Device manager has no 'Sound and video game controller'. System information has nothing under 'Sound devices'.

JeromeBeckett solved the problem himself. It worked for others, but not for all. How's your luck? I've got just one High Definition Audio Controller. I suppose you've got the extra owing to the built-in external sound port. Probably it is the one w/o a Resources tab that is the problem, it needs to have one. Mine has 3 drivers, but none is RealTek, they all are Microsoft. Good luck.
