My headphone and mic jacks on my pc do not work and I have been trying for hours to get my on board sound working. I got the realtek drivers from my board manufacturer and every time I install them I get (Code 10 : Device cannot start.) I have tried updating and I have the newest driver so I am entirely stuck here.
I have tried many different realtek drivers and none work, not even the one supplied by the manufacturer so I would really appreciate if anyone could walk me through how to actually get my sound working.
I have a Z390 Phantom Gaming 4 board and Intel i5 9600K chip.

Yeah, it's as if the motherboard has no sound chip on it at all. Therefore, the Realtek drivers have nothing to install onto. But, in that case, one could wish for an error message stating as much when the install is attempted. OK. Better luck with the Steinberg CI1. I hope it isn't also trying to use something on the motherboard for the mic.

I flashed the BIOS to the latest one available (P4.40 2019/12/02) but it did not let the computer recognize the sound card even after doing the battery removal thing. It's not that I don't have sound or input from my headset or mic, I don't have any ability to even use or detect any device I plug into my computer. Mic mute button on the headset has been checked, not the problem.
I think it's a hardware problem and never returned the board because when I built the PC, I only intended to use my external card. Never even tried to use the on board sound because I didn't need it and my external one was better anyway. It wasn't until I wanted to use a headset with a mic that it became a problem. At this point Im either going to get a dedicated stand alone mic and not use the headset other than for audio or find some other way to make my external card work with my headset+its mic.
(1) Have you ever updated the BIOS? What version is it now? I would go for it.

That's bad. It's another indicator of a hardware problem. Why didn't you return it?
(1) Sorry to hear the problem remains unresolved. I guess I'm leaning toward a chip failure too. I would upgrade the BIOS, if it has reverted to an earlier version. Your site has version 4.40 dated 2020/1/2. I would rather you get this to work too. Are there hardware tests in your BIOS that I didn't see in the User Manual?

Ensure you have the latest driver which is version 2.0.3. What is your gaming headset make & model? Looking at the Steinberg CI1 Operation Manual, it looks like you'd need a headphone mic splitter such as one of these...
