I can no longer disable Touchpad (Synaptics SMBus Touchpad) on HP laptop with windows 10. Typical Disabling Driver options through Device control panel are not available. Disable driver options are grayed out. Are there other ways to disable the touch pad? Key strokes shortcuts, etc.?

Latest updates installed. Tried to uninstall touchpad but it just reinstalles automatically upon restart.

Did you search the "synaptics touchpad" in the Microsoft Store and then you try to installed it?

Or did the "synaptics touchpad" app was already in the pending installation queue and failed to install?

You need to answer this question.

You are in no man's land. The legacy GUI to control the touchpad has been REMOVED and the new GUI now resides in the Microsoft Store app that you cannot install. The app's GUI on a HP laptop looks like this.

Microsoft forced all hardware manufacturers to adopt this new driver system because it is easier for Microsoft to test only the small driver quickly. Microsoft also made it next to impossible for end users like you to go back to legacy drivers. Don't even try and ask for magical solutions (like Time Lady's solution). You cannot roll back to old drivers. You cannot install old drivers over this new driver. System Restore will not work. None of the easy solutions work, period.

You need to contact HP and tell them the precisely if the scenario you are facing is question number 1 or number 2 above. Tell them it is the new DCH driver and UWP (Universal Windows Platform app called Synaptics TouchPad app from the Microsoft Store).

I know precisely the reasons behind both scenarios because Realtek has been offering their version of the "app" for their audio driver since June 2018. This is not something new. There has been a 18 month of complete chaos in the Realtek world. There are tech forum discussions about the Realtek app that spans over hundreds of pages long. No magical solutions, period.

Did you search the "synaptics touchpad" in the Microsoft Store and then you try to installed it?

Yes, I searched for it in the store. Initially it says in the upper left that "YOU OWN IT", then it changed to "ERROR"

When I click on  Synaptics Incorporated I get this page that says

Or did the "synaptics touchpad" app was already in the pending installation queue and failed to install?

You need to answer this question.

Here's a better shot of the first screen shot before it changes to ERROR

You need to talk to HP tech support --- NOT the front line people (they know nothing about this problem and will give you the same unhelpful answers) --- you need to tell the front line people to escalate to someone who is knowledgeable about DCH drivers and its associated UWP "hardware support app". You tell the front line people ANYONE knowledgeable to OTHER DCH drivers (doesn't matter if it is Intel, nVidia or Realtek) will be good enough to talk to.

Tell the tech support staff that you already read Intel's warning about catastrophic failures if DCH drivers are installed incorrectly and that Intel specifically warns about trying to roll back to legacy driver. And you understand that these warnings also apply to the Synaptics DCH driver.

    https://www.intel.ca/content/www/ca/en/support/articles/000031275/graphics-drivers.html

This is the most CONCISE and technically ACCURATE explanation you can give HP support staff:

You need to tell them that you originally had a legacy synaptics driver (that has a old style control panel dockable to the task bar), and Windows 10 automatically downloads and installs the new synaptics DCH driver (show the version number in the screenshot). Then you ran Microsoft Store to download the "synaptics touchpad" app. The Microsoft Store originally said that you owned the app (show them the screenshot) and but then it turned to "error" (show them the screenshot).

Don't talk about anything else (like trying time lady's solution), it will only mess up the conversation.

When you say to speak to HP Tech Support, should I be seeking to find a phone number or starting out with the support chat option? I found the following phone numbers:

1 (650) 857-1501 this is an HP customer support #.

    I also found this:

If you need to contact a live person in HP customer service you need to dial 1-800-474-6836 or 1-800-HP-INVENT. To speak with a live agent, you need to say “It is something else” at the first prompt, then say “Home” and stay on the line (typical waiting time is about 5-10 minutes).

Is Customer Support the same as Tech Support?
