Did you search the "synaptics touchpad" in the Microsoft Store and then you try to installed it?

Or did the "synaptics touchpad" app was already in the pending installation queue and failed to install?

You are in no man's land. The legacy GUI to control the touchpad has been REMOVED and the new GUI now resides in the Microsoft Store app that you cannot install. The app's GUI on a HP laptop looks like this.

Microsoft forced all hardware manufacturers to adopt this new driver system because it is easier for Microsoft to test only the small driver quickly. Microsoft also made it next to impossible for end users like you to go back to legacy drivers. Don't even try and ask for magical solutions (like Time Lady's solution). You cannot roll back to old drivers. You cannot install old drivers over this new driver. System Restore will not work. None of the easy solutions work, period.

You need to contact HP and tell them the precisely if the scenario you are facing is question number 1 or number 2 above. Tell them it is the new DCH driver and UWP (Universal Windows Platform app called Synaptics TouchPad app from the Microsoft Store).

I know precisely the reasons behind both scenarios because Realtek has been offering their version of the "app" for their audio driver since June 2018. This is not something new. There has been a 18 month of complete chaos in the Realtek world. There are tech forum discussions about the Realtek app that spans over hundreds of pages long. No magical solutions, period.

Have you even tried to see if you have an app called "synaptics touchpad" in your computer?

Have you even tried to run Microsoft Store to see if you have a pending app installation called "synaptics touchpad"?

   This is way over my head. I see in your last reply the attached display on Microsoft Updates Catalog and the various Synaptics Drivers but I have no idea where to go to get the OP's synaptics DCH driver and then how to down load and set it up.

Time Lady should stop giving out that particular technical advice on installing old legacy driver over DCH driver. That obsolete advice from www.intowindows.com only worked in the past because it was written in 2017 and DCH drivers have not even come out yet.

Old legacy drivers include some sort of control panel program that you can dock on the task bar and are big size downloads (BartDee's 19.0.19.63 legacy driver comes in at 88 MB).

New DCH drivers are base drivers only. The OP's synaptics DCH driver comes at very small download size at 13.6 MB. The GUI app is downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

Intel's FAQ on the difference between legacy driver and new DCH driver specifically recommends that you DO NOT try to roll back to legacy. It won't work for you, period. Don't even try it.
